Somewhere in Woking

Meanwhile, somwhere in woking...

...some hotel discovers that one bad apple could spoil the whole barrel.

"I'm very, very angry. It's discrimination. They would never get away with it if it was against someone of ethnic origin."

She added: "In America, they treat soldiers as heroes. We went to Disney World with Tomos and the whole family was moved to the front of the lines. Everybody was clapping and cheering. Here, soldiers can't even get a bed for the night."
Nearly forgot: h/t Blackfive

I read about this on Foxnews last night.  I'm not buying the hotel's apology- this was clearly an unwritten hotel policy enforced by a front desk employee.  The mother says that in America, soldiers are shown proper respect.  I wish that was always the case- especially when you consider that the hotel in question is owned by an American company.

Yes.  I was wondering about that, but I didn't hear any other part from the hotel agency.  I bet they took awhile because they didn't get a good answer at first and then they didn't know what to do when they got the answer they didn't want to hear.

Nope -- American Amusements, Ltd, is a company based in Woking. The only thing "American" about it is the name, which appears to have been swiped from American Amusements, Inc., which *is* an American company. It manufactures games.

American Amusements, Ltd, appears to be a wholly-owned subsidiary of Linde AG in Wiesbaden.

See the comments at And Rightly So! for more info on the brouhaha. It appears the hotel is presently engaging in some hasty site-cleaning...

Okay, a lot of *appears* appear above, because I was split-screening and editing on-the-fly.

It appears I apparently have a right-hemisphere/left-hemisphere split when I do that.

It appears that way to me, anyway.

*promising not to snark kat about "Calhoun" anymore*

No promises.  I'm having fun making up "Calhoun" names to see how bad I can get.

Ah, well then I'm glad *this* American Amusements is not an American company!  That is good news.

This is fairly clear cut discrimination and the apology just screams scapegoat tactics.  I wonder where the policy idea came from.

American Amusements, Inc. isn't going to be too thrilled about this I imagine.

I think y'all are missing the greater point: for several years now, certain points of view have acclaimed the Islamisation of Europe; the Euros are just too multi-culti to fight back.

Add the Dutch reaction to the assassination of Theo van Gogh to the above Limey reaction, and stir in some Sarkozy. I think at least some Europeans are starting to recall their heritage.
