Keep in mind, had I meant it that way, she would have been the lipstick.
You know, I'm just following the logic of this...you know...illogical situation.
Well, I've got some thoughts on the logic...logically, Obama is still hitting on the fact that she's a woman = lipstick. As if, that is her only qualification for being on the ticket. So, do I think he meant the original comment as a swipe at Palin. Yes.
Dave Letterman asked Obama: have you ever tried to put lipstick on a pig?
Obama answered, "No." I think his answer should be, "Yes." Because he keeps trying to cover up the fact that he basically made a mysoginistic comment that the Democrat party has typically insisted belonged to the Republicans as the "keep the little woman in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant" party.
Well, guess who's out of the kitchen?
Now he's trying to claim that the McCain campaign has used the "gender card" and is trying to mislead and misdirect away from "substance" of policies. Pretty rich from the guy who has personally claimed that Republicans have been trying to scare people from voting for him because he "doesn't look like other presidents" and "has a funny name". In essence, playing the race card.
Maybe Obama has heard of another old homily: What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
Frankly, I would have just tossed it off. Politics as they are, but the more he tries to cover it, the more I think he sucks along with all of the other little hit men he's deployed lately using the lipstick line from Biden to Beckel.
You know what women really dislike is being taken for granted and used. Frankly, the Democrat party has been trading on "women's issues" for decades. Decades! For what? Toss some after school programs and day care coverage as bones? To front a womanizer for president in 1992 and 1996? While I give respect to Hillary as a tough woman politician, back in the day, she may have sold her silence and support for support from the Democrats in a run for the Senate with a vague promise for presidential campaign support. But, when it came time for the Presidential primary campaign, what did the "good ol' boys" in the Democrat party do?
Buh-bye, Hillary. Sit down. Shut up. Withdraw so the Democrat party doesn't have to have a roll call and show the world that the Democrat party isn't unified or risk having Hillary get so many votes they would have to put her on the ticket as the Vice President. It was too risky. So, the Democrats sold their 18 million women voters down the river. For party unity.
No wonder there are Hillary supporters who call themselves PUMAs (Party Unity My A$$). Face it. In four years, Hillary might not have the gravitas or money (she was in debt at the end of this run) necessary to run. While it's an interesting conjecture for Hillary to run in 2012, that is no guarantee that Hillary makes a come back then, or later.
Who is the next Democrat woman to run for President? If it is not Hillary? Pelosi? Feinstein? McKinney? Who? There is no potential female candidate on the horizon and the Democrat party has strangely signaled that they may not be interested in promoting any single female candidate any time soon. Unless the Democrats promote an unknown female backbencher in 2012.
It is one of the reasons that I think the Democrat party apparatchiks have made a serious mistake. Not in simply not selecting Hillary, but in using mysognist attacks, even "soft" attacks, or patronizing comments against a female candidate. Any female candidate.
The Democrat "good ol' boys" are creating a new political polity: Lipstick Republicans.
It is a long way until November 4th, but we might be seeing one of the most significant demographic shifts in political history. Even if democrat women don't vote Republican this year, I predict that this year will have both the largest voter turnout in the last one hundred years (or more) and that it will have a record number of women voting. Largely due to both Hillary and Palin's candidacies. Palin's nomination sealed the deal.
Whichever way they vote, I think they are all "Lipstick Republicans".
Logic? That is your problem. Don't ever bring that stuff into politics. As long as this "stuff" makes no sense, you're safe. Worry, when this "stuff" starts to make sense.
Note: The term "stuff" is the only "Rulez Compliant" word in my dictionary.

Sorry, about that. I can already hear you telling me to pull my head out.
