Ace of Spades has a new way to save water: Astroturfing.  It's apparently all the rage...

Drip... drip... drip...  The caution is still there, but the good news keeps on coming.   Al Qaeda is reeling.  Add to it the new U.S. incursions into the Pakistani tribal areas and things are definitely looking up.  For us.

In all the brouhaha over the cover pyhoto, we're missing what is an excellent story on John McCain in the Atlantic

Hubris.  Or is this a new version of the non-denial denial?:  As near as I can tell, Obama has confirmed Taheri's accusation.  Whoa.  UPDATE: Comments at Blackfive make the case that perhaps Obama was confused about "Status of Forces Agreement" and "Strategic Forces Agreement" when he visited Iraq. That's actually encouraging on one level, but also just another indication of hubris/arrogance, in that he doesn't recognize when he's in over his head. And consider his campaign's statement above, neither do they.

A fascinating discussion of the new "media reality" for the presidential campaigns.

John Nagl visits Iraq and makes a report:  "This time, we were winning when I left."

And here's another grat bit o' humor. Though I don't think it's supposed to be funny (h/t Ramesh Ponnuru). - FbL

Heh.  Don't send money to political parties or the NRA.  They're like homeless panhandlers, once you give 'em money, they never leave you alone.  They're worse than charities.  SWWBO sent money to the RNC and now not a week goes by without a BRAND NEW CRISIS where the world will end if she doesn't send 'em some more money.  The tone is offensive, frankly.  Then there's the NRA.  Apparently, being an Endowment member isn't sufficient - now I need to join the 2nd Amendment Task Force, and get *more* special information to... AVERT THE IMPENDING CRISIS THAT WILL CAUSE THE GOONS TO APPEAR AT MY DOOR TO TAKE MY GUNS!.  Sigh.  If anything, the tone of the NRA stuff is even more offensive, and sometimes descends to near-childish.  Geez, guys, I love ya, but a simple note that says - we're doin' stuff, it costs money, send cash, would be sufficient and far less annoying.  Can I get on that list, please?  -the Armorer

Twitter - I'm starting to feel like I'm in a Verizon commercial... with this crowd of people following me, all of whom are in my "network"...  How many social networking apps are all the kewl kids running with these days?  -the Armorer

*A term of art from the artillery. Harassment and Interdiction Fires. Back in the day, when you could just kill people and break things without a note from a lawyer, they were pre-planned, but to the enemy, random, fires at known gathering points, road junctions, Main Supply Routes, assembly areas, etc - to keep the bad guy nervous that the world around him might start exploding at any minute. Not really relevant to today's operating environment, right? But, it *is. The UAVs we fly over Afghanistan and Pakistan looking for targets of opportunity are a form of H&I fires, if you really want to parse it finely. We just have better sensors and fire control now. Of course, now I have to call them UAS's, because someone got a Legion of Merit for the name change.Anyway, I call the post H&I Fires because it's random things posted by me and people I've given posting privileges to that particular topic. Another term of art that might be appropriate is Free Fire Zone.

Besides the frequent requests for more money, let's remember than the RNC gave a million dollars to Lincoln Chaffee to get re-elected.  After he lost he switched parties.  I don't intend to ever trust the RNC again.

Re: Belief.net link.

So, I wonder how long before we start hearing the cries of "Barack's a Christianist Theocrat" from the usual suspects?

Actually, no I don't.

But it is very interesting that their take essentially boils down to "Yeah, we know what he says, but we're pretty much convinced he's lying about it, so it's OK."

And then, because the irony isn't delicious enough they go and grab a second helping by decrying McCain as a LIAR!

So, I just read what Obama had to say about the Iraq situation.  basically, he said, "I'm not a d*ckhead, I'm a d*ck head.  See the difference?"

So, Lotsa Luck, you're saying the RNC knew ahead of time that Chaffee was going to switch parties?

Otherwise you're blaming the wrong (excuse the pun) party.

Casey,
I think LL's point is that the RNC spent a ton of money on someone who was so ideologically close to the opposition party that such a switch was even possible.

RE:Apps

I've never bothered with Apps. In fact as long as we've ran Techo we've never bothered with apps. About the only thing we use is RSS and Ping.

Mainly because we've found that, sure they are great for a time. But then about 2 years in to them, they go belly up. Like Link Exchange

I never got paid for my LE account, and its only about, hrmm.....10 years old now?

Between the short lifespan, compatability issues, and frequent interuptions or problems, we stopped bothering with them and figured we'd concentrate on just providing well...us.

To each his own however ;)

I don't use Twitter, directly, BS.  Like Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn and the other social networking media, I simply don't have time to keep track of that stuff.  I guess that makes me as uninterested and disconnected from the Internet as the Obama campaign accuses Senator McCain of being.

Hee!

I have made the blog available via Twitter, however, for those who wish to access it that way.

I was just commenting on the feeling I get when I get the emails "Joe Blow is following you on Twitter!" the mental image of the Verizon commercials net-mob appears.

give me some lead time and i might be able to arrange something similar...

"I'm not a d*ckhead, I'm a d*ck head. See the difference?"

Well. He got "p*rt" of it right.  LOL

RRM - similar to what?

Oh, *that's* funny!
