I better put something up here before Kat turns this place into "Kat and some guys who post sometimes." So - continuing with that whole, "What caught my eye about this M48" theme I ran with last week - here's another? This beastie sits outside the Third Brigade, 3ID cantonment at Fort Benning. There are two things about it that I found interesting. One is pretty obvious, the other, not so much.

Olaf - I moved your comment up to the other post. For the rest of you - the first version of the new post I put up had broken archive links, so when you tried to "read more" or open the permalink you got an 'file not found" error message. That's fixed - but that's why Olaf's comment says what it does.

Based on the larger pic you put up this am (but goes missing when you try and comment)

#1 road wheels on left hull side missing?
What's the deal with the flash suppressor, looks like it's got a bit of material missing around the bore, unless the angle is playing tricks on the camera.
Air Filter assemblies behind sponson boxes missing?

Headlamps aren't the wrong ones, they're just busted out.
Heater exhaust pipe missing.
Fire ext. handles not painted red or just plain missing.

And I also concur, the sponson box handles are all in no-go mode.

Don't you dare talk about my ten children or parenting skills! I'll have you know that only one of them is pregnant out of wedlock. of course, the other 9 are boys, four of them are in reform school, one's in the navy (don't ask) and the other three haven't stopped sucking their thumbs, though I told the 15 year old that girls won't like him if he doesn't stop. then again...

I'll have you know that I am a successful professional dancer at the KC repetoire theater on 12th street earning $300 a performance. Just don't tell my ex-husband. He might stop paying that whopping $50/mo child support.

Hey! Were you reading my post for tomorrow? I have proof from the census bureau that women are underpaid by close to 12% compared to their male counterparts.

FbL and us girls are going to have to form a union or something. 0 X 12% = ...carp!

Hey! There's *no* pay gap here. You get paid exactly what I, Dusty, Bill, and Fuzzy get paid.

So, no whinin' and no lawsuits.

Besides, I hadda 152 page report to finish, and I'm working on a 200 page plan, now.

That's an M48 hull, boys and girls.

I think tomorrow I'll slap up a link to a larger version of the picture. Maybe tonight if I can stir my butt from the Throne of Argghhh!

Oh, and Olaf - I would find it interesting if the Gunner's computer was set to Canister. And no, it's not a Zippo - though that *would* be an Armorer-style sneeky thing to do.

The answers is, in fact, right in the picture. In a sneeky Armorer-style fashion.

1. Looks to me that it has Motorpool-expedient mud flaps vs. original equipment.
2. Possibly the wrong headlamps.
3. Battlecarrying SABOT, but the gunner's computer is set for HEAT.
4. Busted torsion bar on left side of hull.
5. 3 quarts low on transmission fluid.
6. Zippo equipped?

J.M. mabbe, I can't tell from the number of rollers, they're all in shadow. The airfilter and sponsons may be the real judge, but the hull looks curved and not straight to me, but shadows can do strange things. The mantlet does look a little odd also . So, Armourer, when ya gonna come clean? Yeah, no cupola is obvious, but you've already pulled something like that off already.

Hmmm, didn't the Isreal's replace the cupola? Could this be one of theirs?

on the contrary, i left Troop command with a short survey for the princely sum of 95 cents (dug up from the deepest recesses of the MMC was a slip of paper showing how, three commanders previous, someone had failed to account for smidge of recoverable metal on a particular piece of repair items)....

i ALWAYS checked sponson boxes for security...

...and perhaps my NCOs were even more zealous than I.
