A little Gunner Zen.

First up, a little basic artillery attention to detail being performed by Brit gunners in Basra.

Secondly, disregarding the strains of "In the Navy" in the background - why would anyone want to obscure those fine lines with all that frippery?

Just won'drin...

Yeah, those fine lines *are* obscured.

The boat in the background is a distractor, too...

perhaps that photo was taken in Mobile Bay?

i do believe that you, suh, have unduly distracted us from the lovely Azalea Trail queen and court, what with all that squidly accoutrements in the background...

If I could turn back time

I was going to guess Wilmington, NC, home of the USS North Carolina, but I think the Mobile Bay and the USS Alabama is correct.

The same view of the USS North Cackalackie has the Wilmington skyline behind the superstructure.

If the New Jersey were the stage, the backdrop would be Philly International.

And the ladies would have aluminum bats to whack the muggers climbing over from the Camden mooring.

No, Kat - RRM had it correct.  Azalea Trail ladies on the Alabama.

As Bill T noted, if they had removed the frippery then you wouldn't post the picture here.

btw.  been there, done that.  (not the dresses, you knuckleheads!)

(i was about 5 years old, lived on a street that the convoy of convertibles with the lovelies passed by, and i had a cousin serving aboard (the boat, not the convertibles nor the lovelies))

(now living up north, planted an azalea bush out front, but no convertibles ever drive by......  sigh!)

shoulda made this one a Whatzis.  woulda been the first one i ever got correct on the first try!

 Whoa, "B" turret was a twin-mount ...

Cheers

Feedle-dee-dee - THAT looks fabulouth!  It just needs some more decorating.

The other identifying feature is that the 5-in turrets on the Alabama are located one deck higher than they are on the North Carolina.  The four South Dakota class battleships, (of which Alabama is one,) were considered far beatter sea boats than their predecessors of the North Caroliina class.
