So, Georgia moves to retake South Ossetia.

The Russians are annoyed.  Georgians shell Russian peace-keepers, Russians send air strikes against the Georgians (two acft down, so Georgia claims) and Russian tanks are reputedly moving in.

MajMike(R) sez: "Guidons, Guidons, Guidons...  don't pack away your Cold Warrior gear just yet..."

Bill counters - "There's already a Russian tank column inside South Ossetsia and Georgia claimed to have shot down two Soviet Russian aircraft attacking Georgian positions."

"This could get interesting."

"This could get interesting."

Reminds me of a Chinese curse... "May you live in interesting times."

I'm too busy trying to finish up the report and get to the airport - discuss amongst yourselves.

Update:  Noah Schachtman sends: Did US Prep Georgia for war with Russia?

THE supply line for Ivan runs thru one each two lane tunnel, 4km long (at least until the can establish cargo flights)....

watch the southern end of that tunnel, bring popcorn.

It will be interesting to do a 180 "to the rear, march" on some past exercises/experiments of which many of we readers have been a part.  Just sayin'.  ML

maps of Tblisi?  yeah, i got 'em.

Think they'll remember the lesson of the Salang Tunnel?

Two lane tunnel, one-way traffic...

What if ....... this is a diversionary action covertly fomented by the US to take advantage of Putin's militaristic and imperialistic tendencies, thereby keeping him and Russia otherwise occupied while plans proceed vis-a-vis Israel-Iran?

That clock is still ticking, and this could delay the delivery of that new Russian AA system to Iran.
(Even though CBT disagrees with me on its importance. LOL)

@MajMike(R), GREAT POINT! This region of  the World will never be settled. This is the reason I've always advocated a full spectrum approach towards weapons systems. We need to remember, if we choose option "A", our adversary will choose option "B".

There is just one second point, our Military plate is FULL. But in some ways, it best for the ;Nation. It will give us time to design the new approach for "National security and Homeland Security". We all need to be involved.

Oh, sure, see if you can bait me that way, why dontcha, Frank.  ;)

It was worth a shot, CBT!  LOL

Quite interesting.  I wonder what other nations nearby think.
