So you're stuck with yet another color 'toon to read on Sunday.

I was going to hang around Iraq for a while, but since the MilBlog Meet is this month, and John's the moderator of the "Are MilBlogs Still Relevant?" panel, I figured I'd give the opposition some ammo...

So, as long as I'll be "here" for a month (or until I get whacked on the head again -- or terminally *flounced*), I'd better ~~hit on~~ visit multiple Denizen(ne)s while I'm visiting, even if it's only to keep the ones I *don't* "see" on their toes.

And it'll give me time to grow a new brain cell before the next trip...

Ah, yes, hot 'n high! I, too have seen the Fear Face on people who just barely got away with that. It was a BD-Grumman-American Yankee, the early one with the small high-speed wing, at a short grass strip in Northern Alabama in the summer. It was where we, the Huntsville SPC, used to jump. They were famously cheap for putting novices out the door at barely acceptable heights, not leaving much time to do anything if something went wrong. I did get to meet some scary badasses, though.

Howzabout the one where a fellow flies out to the Labor Day Pig Roast 'n' Experimental Fly-In at Markham's ranch near Keenesburg, Colorado on a cool morning with his fee-on-say in the back seat of his Challenger II. Mike has a bumpy grass strip, about 2000' long. All goes well until they decide to return home... and now its 92 degrees F. and the DA has risen to 7900' and they have to take EVERY STINKING FOOT OF THE RUNWAY TO GET AIRBORNE, with County Road 22 and it's attendant wires at the end of said MISBEGOTTEN PRAIRIE DOG - INFESTED BUMPY UPHILL EXCUSE FOR A SO-CALLED RUNWAY? And his lovely English Rose in the back is chattering gaily on the intercom about what fun she had and what nice people they were whilst THE ENGINE IS SCREAMING AT MAX RPM AND THE PILOT IS GRITTING HIS TEETH, GAINING ABOUT 100 FPM AND APPROACHING A PROPANE PLANT ON THE RIGHT AND HIGH TENSION WIRE TOWERS ON THE LEFT AND SEEING THE CYLINDER HEAD AND EXHAUST GAS TEMPS NEARING RED-LINE... THERMALS TOSSING THE PLANE ABOUT LIKE A SHUTTLECOCK IN THE GOLD MEDAL GAME...
um... or would that be difficult to express in a cartoon? Just asking.
We made it home safe and she still has no idea; nor will I tell her. Getting there is half the fun, eh?

E-mail me if you get stuck or lost in south-central Virginia. I've got some Bushmills Irish Whiskey contaminating the glass in the bottle - it should be poured into glasses and shared with Sheepdogs and their friends!

P.S. I got my boneheaded bruises admiring some medical corps troops that filled out their BDU's MUCH better than I did..., and NOT from lifting weights! Great 'toon!

How about the one where you are getting a tour of the aircraft you used to crew, and realising that the officer giving the talk wasn't yet born when you were crewing that same bird... sigh... I so hate growing older. I'm not growing up, mind you, but it's hard to slow down that darned aging process.
