MilBlogger Roundtable: The Army Family Action Plan

John normally handles the Public Service Announcements, but this is a tad time-sensitive and *I* don't want to be the one to wake him up at this hour.

DA's been pretty pro-active using the e-Bulletin Board, and this item ties in nicely with a lot of the distaff concerns I've been reading about when the server is behaving:
Want to hear more about how the Army family cares for Soldiers and their families?

What: A blogger's roundtable on Thursday, August 21st at 1:30 PM with MG John Macdonald, commander of the U.S. Army Family Morale, Welfare and Recreation Command, and Mrs. Becky Pillsbury, spouse of MG James Pillsbury, the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics and Operations, Army Materiel Command. They will discuss the 25th Anniversary of the Army Family Action Plan and how AFAP has improved quality of life for Soldiers and their families.

When: Thursday, August 21st at 1:30 PM

Where: Pentagon conference room; dial-in numbers also available - [Note: see my addendum for dial-in information or conference room details -- Bill]

AFAP initiatives cover a wide spectrum of topics and address quality of life concerns for all demographic groups, but it's important to note that almost 25% of active AFAP issues impact the Reserve Component and almost 40% address mobilization / deployment concerns - they cover everything from counseling to Family Care Plan initiatives.

The AFAP program is a three-tier process with installations / garrisons hosting conferences to identify issues in the fall, command AFAP conferences reviewing and prioritizing the garrison issues in the spring and elevation of issues to the HQDA AFAP Conference in the Fall.

The top five issues from the 2008 HQDA AFAP Conference were:

1) Minimum Disability Retirement Pay for Medically Retired Wounded Warriors

2) Traumatic Service Members’ Group Life Insurance (TSGLI) for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Uniplegia

3) Federal Hiring Process for Wounded Warriors

4) Army Wellness Centers

5) Medical Care Access for Non-Dependent Caregivers of Severely Wounded Soldiers

6) Staffing to Support the Physical Disability Evaluation System

7) Comprehensive Behavioral Health Program for Children
This e-mail went out to folks on DA's blogger list. If you didn't receive it and would like to participate, leave me a note in the comment block and I'll forward your info directly to the POC. *Don't* put your e-mail addy in the comment box -- I'll get it when the server forwards comments to my mailbox. If you're one of the New Kids and would like to be placed on the DA mailing list, you can work the details directly with the POC -- she's a Lady, so don't embarrass me, okay?

Send it to me, though I have to check my schedule tomorrow for conflicts.  If this is EST, 12:30 my time, I'll do it while I'm at lunch.

DANG IT.
I would love to participate in this, but will be right in the middle of a meeting when it starts.
*heavy sigh*

Please take good notes!!!!

Wanna get on the notification list for future RoundTables, Twin?

Bill, do you have my work email?

Nope, just your h-m addy.

I was on their mailing list for a while but somehow seem to have dropped off. Can you pass along my email addy again, please? I'm not sure if I'll be available to make the Thursday RT though but I'd love to be involved in future ones.
