Flash Forward August 2007 - Russians want bases in the Mediterranean

Those two articles should be a good start to understanding why the Russians were so agitated by the break up of Yugoslavia.  A name: Dubrovnik

What the Armenians think of Russia

Pay close attention to the pictures and what they say about Russia, nationalism and the nice new, freshly pressed uniforms of their soldiers with that pretty blue, kinda, sorta, UN peacekeeper look.  My favorite is the picture of the Netherlands/Russian soccer game in the middle.  I believe that's a giant picture of Peter the Great.

Not even a hint of irony here, either:
The Russian Defense Ministry has demanded that Georgia immediately return a Russian peacekeeping automobile and ammunition seized on Tuesday in the Georgia-Abkhazia conflict zone. The automobile and ammunition of the Russian peacekeepers seized in a criminal manner by the enforcement structures of Georgia in the conflict zone should be returned to the peacekeepers immediately,” said Igor Konashenkov, aide to the chief commander of the Russian infantry. onashenkov said that 20 antitank missiles, which are the standard ammunition for the antitank battalion of the peacekeeping forces were taken from Zugdidi District of Georgia. Konashenkov noted that both sides in the conflict have tanks divisions.

Peacekeepers with mines and anti-tank weapons.  If you no comprende, the Armenians are not fond of the Georgians.  Check out the Javahk Movement for some idea of the situation.

oh, so sad.  personnel shall be repatriated, arms and equipment are forfeit.  it's right there in the rule book.

The rule book must have had bad cyrillic editing or the words "rules" simply didn't translate.  LOL

evidently they just published an addendum:  Ivan seized some more Georgis, plus some US equipment (HMMWVs) at the port....    (can't wait to see THAT Report of Survey (i can only imagine how many NVGs, binos, and bayonets were allegedly packed aboard those vehicles))

btw: check the FoxNews photo essay.  anyone else notice that the tank models have changed?  Ivan now using older stuff....    and the photo of the "wounded pilot" being exchanged? i didn't realize that pilots also were wearing blue/white striped shirts.    also note the complete lack of NCO Corps: soldiers lounging about atop their vehicles in motion, etc....

RRM - I'm sure there were enough sensitive/controlled items aboard those HMMWVs to outfit an ACR...

funny you should mention an ACR....  (and how it stays equipped)
