We interrupt all this breathless McCain's-VP-pick-poliblogging for some milblogging...
I know who started, and why, the Global War on Terror. Deliberately. For personal profit and gain. No, not Bush, though bush does figure into it. It was started by people who vote almost exclusively Democrat. Really. The evidence is incontrovertible. And Big Tobacco at The War On Big Tobacco is the guy who figured it out. It's true - I Blame Bush. But not the one you think. Probably not a post you want your children to read. Or people who routinely wear tin-foil headgear. -the Armorer

And President Putin knows who started the war in Georgia. McCain or his minions. Really. Hmmm. I wonder if the CIA keeps track of how much aluminum foil is delivered to the Kremlin on a weekly basis? -the Armorer

So, Governor Palin gets the nod. Heh. I finally got one right. Which I hope doesn't doom everything. And, at least there is someone in the running of the four who's actually run something, and had to work with a legislature and everything. Gollee. No matter how you slice it - it will be a historically significant election - we're going to have something other than a white guy in one of the top two positions of the Executive. -the Armorer

Jon the Mechanic sends: Today is the 40th anniversary of the loss of Captain Jerry Zimmer from Maine NY. I graduated from the same school as he went to and I also went to school with several of his nieces and nephews. He was a Phantom pilot in the Marine Corps at the time of his death. I did a lot of searching for additional information but could not find any surrounding the circumstances of his death.
Now is the time at Castle Argghhh! when we dance: In Memoriam -the ArmorerLet us not forget Captain Jerry Allen Zimmer, casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Marine Corps, CPT Zimmer served our country until August 29th, 1969 in Quang Nam, South Vietnam. He was 25 years old and was married. Jerry died when his plane crashed into the land. His body was not recovered. Jerry was born on May 5th, 1944 in Maine, New York.
CPT Zimmer is on panel 18W, line 009 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for 3 years.

Jon's request brought to mind this article sent by CAPT H - perhaps someday Captain Zimmer will come home - as apparently, finally, this fallen aviator from WWII is perhaps coming home. -the Armorer

Sarah Palin
(July 2008)
Next? Why don't you try the creation meme? You know, the one where she's pushing to have creationism taught in schools. That'll be fun.
Nice place you have here, I'll have to bookmark it.
Finding the remains is really good news, it means that he will again have a name and a proper burial.
I want to know who he is, what his story is. I want to know about his family, who was left behind.
More news about the recent find here: www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/08/28/2349562.htm
Another interesting story of recovering the fallen in two parts here: www.abc.net.au/austory/specials/behindenemylines/default.htm
and here: www.abc.net.au/austory/specials/behindenemylines2/default.htm
These are direct links, not to my site - I hope you find them interesting. I did have some information on Australian soldiers' graves found in Europe earlier this year.

That's pretty much my take, too. She's saying, "I need to know if I'm gonna just be sent to all the state funerals, or if McCain forsees the VP position having substance and impact."
It was fun to see people who were all telling me in email how smart a pick Biden was now telling me how unimportant the VP pick is, and that it really has little impact.
That same people who wont post comments because they know they can't follow the rules if someone disagrees with their sagacity.
What do I think?
1. This process has taken wayyyy too long, even if that appears to actually be working in McCain's favor.
2. There was a surprising hunger (because it's been unexpressed, not surprising that it exists) among conservative women to see a good, solid, conservative woman suddenly shoot into prominence.
3. Governor Palin is a relative unknown, and I hope that she has the stuff to stand the tide, else this become her Mr. Tanner moment, and there are going to be a *lot* of people out there trying to make sure it is.
But her selection gives me some hope, too, oddly enough. And not just because she was my pick...
By "whole process taking waaay too long" I mean the entire election process, not McCain's VP pick. It's wearying. That said, if it were shorted out - I suspect Senator Obama would have won in a walk. One thing the long campaign does do is force a candidate to be more than just a good speaker.

I'm with ya on that. It's probably a bit easier on me than most as I don't have a television, so I don't get bombarded with all those ads.
