MilBlog Conference Update

The fourth panel has been announced, and it sounds fascinating.  Some of us involved in the panels have also gotten a request for info that seems to imply there will be more interesting news coming out, soon.

So, check out the latest on the Conference blog or at the main BlogWorld site.  Andi has also put up some great info about lodging.  Since it's in Las Vegas both the airfare and lodging may be much more affordable than past years for some, making the trip more manageable...  as long as you stay away from the slot machines!  ;)  So, check it out!

Hope to see you there...

I'm gonna try and stay somewhere on the strip so i can enjoy the true purpose of going to Vegas: gambling and debauchery.  I believe there is a monorail that can schlepp you to the convention center.

There is a link to the monorail map here.  Based on last year's experiences (and the year prior) I think it's a damn good thing that the actual conference doesn't start until 1030am.

Yeah, plenty of time to graze the breakfast buffets...

I wasn't so much worried about getting breakfast. I was more worried about the lushes we will have in attendance who might have trouble getting up before, say, noon.

LOL  that was immediately my thought six.  How many will be hung over and hating at 10 AM?

Heh.  Clearly, based on my shadow, I *never* let something get between me and a breakfast buffet.  If I lived in Vegas, I'd have a 10 ton dump truck as my personal scooter by now...

I resemble that remark, HF6.

However, I am very proud to say that I just barely made it on time last year- and got to hear Bush address the conference.  That was SOMETHING, let me tell ya!

John, those buffets in those small towns in Georgia are pretty good. They get the recipes right. You'd be surprised given some of the stuff you can find in other buffets in the cities that have just started out and can't cook for beans.

AFSis - I believe I am the person Hf6 is directing her remarks toward.

I resolve not to let Steve Shippert *thank* me as much as he *thanked* me in DC.

ConcreteBob, while and excellent driver was clearly not up to the task of "Princess Crabby-sitting"

My sister Jen will tell you that I must be made to eat more bread when I am drinking.

Hf6 - Queen of the Mojitos, had the nerve to look happy that morning.  She could have faked a hangover out of sympathy, but nooooooooooo.

I'm not one to fake anything.

Methinks she doth protest too much.
HF6, you didn't have anyone in particular in mind when you posted that comment did you? ~~snort~~
I probably should have stayed overnight, but then I'd be the subject of vicious, (but true) innuendo and conjecture and be obligated to defend the honor of a very lovely damsel.

"I'm not one to fake anything."

Ha!  You've got me there!  That was the best comeback.....everyone knows Castle Denizennes never fake anything.

The Clarion at 325 E. Flamingo has free shuttle service to the Convention Center.

Now, first things first. I cannot drink heavily Friday night at the pre-conference get together.
(Damn, I had to stay sober at the last one. I see a disturbing pattern developing)
I have an 8 hour exam on Saturday morning and I HAVE to pass the damn thing.
Hopefully, I won't need the entire 8 hours.

However, on Saturday night, all restrictions are lifted, all bets are off, and its open season.

What happens in Cibola stays in Cibola.

I wasn't directing the comment at anyone in particular. If I recall correctly, there were several people who stumbled in late and a fwe that may not have even shown up until their panel was ready to go. Those who seem to think the comment was directed at them might just have a wee bit of a guilty conscience.

If they *have* a conscience.

As for me, I might just make it my goal to get on the plane drunk the next morning. Then again, it sure was a lot of fun last year watching the drunk people be, well, drunk people. They are quite amusing...

watching the drunk people be, well, drunk people. They are quite amusing...

Only for a while - hence why SWWBO and I are never a subject of these conversations, we are such sticks-in-the-mud and go to bed early (compared to this crowd, anyway).

We may not have as many stories to tell, but we enjoy reading yours...

There are two things in this world that I really do not like.

1. A drunk when I am sober
2. A sober person when I am drunk.

Remind me to name my designated drinker at a later date.

I have a red eye out on Sunday morning, so there's a very good chance I'll be drunk-flying.  You'll have a MUCH better chance of catching me intoxicated on Friday.

*hick*

All I know, is that I have learned my lesson.  After having my drinks spiked two years in a row by two different people, I'm sensing a pattern. "Make Fuzzybear Tipsy" seems to be the theme of these events...   Not gonna happen this time.  :P

I'll just sit and watch all the drunk people doing silly things.  :D

Oh, Fuzzy, now you've gone and done it - you set them a "challenge* you silly twit!

Oops.  *looks at self stupidly*

I guess I won't be drinking anything.  Even water.

But you have to watch those rum cakes, and the bourbon balls.

;)

***sits back and waits for the fallout***

**How many will be hung over and hating at 10 AM? **

Depends upon what time they actually stop drinking on Friday night/Saturday morning.

So what is the concensus?

The wife and I will be staying at the Sahara...why stay at a mere hotel when you are in the land of casinos?  We'll be arriving on Thursday to make a proper time of it, if anyone wants to get together let me know, our plans on Thursday are to catch a show, which one as of yet to be determined, and Friday we plan on laying about the spa somewhere until dinner time.

Who knows...maybe my blog will be unlocked by then.  LOL

Hi...ain't  technology grand???

Sitemeter issues. Bad code or something.

HUGE H/T and KUDOS and Bravo Zulu to Sethery on LGF Comment #266...

You the man!!!!!!!!!!!!

The gentleman who runs our soils lab spent one of his vacations in Cibola. He gave me a heads up about a good breakfast buffet. His note left in my malbox this morning says, "Bob, this is the place to eat in Las Vegas." (and trust me folks, this man never met a meal he didn't like.)
The Wynn Buffet, located in the hotel of the same name, has, as the article he gave me states, become a state-of-the-art culinary event.
Located in an airy, sunlit room on the edge of the hotel's casino, the Wynn Buffet has the look and feel of a European bistro garden, with lush floral and fruit topiaries, comfortable  wicker furniture, and the kind of casual elegance that defines contemporary dining today. 16 distinct stations, including omlets for breakfast, meat carving, grilled items, Italian, Chinese, and bait  sushi creations, seafood (think crablegs!!) and dessert, where on Fridays and Saturdays, Parisian-style crepes are made to order.

I don't mind drunk people when I'm sober as long as that's what I had planned on dealing with. It's when they catch me off guard that it gets annoying. Last year, I'm not sure what was more fun - the conference or the drunk people. It was like being back in college (I've never been one to drink much, even then. However, if Cass makes it to this conference, I might have a run-in with a Blue Hawaiian...).

Right now I'm booked at the Marriott (I get in Friday about noon and fly home Sunday morning) but I might bump over to the Sahara and save a few $$.

...and the kind of casual elegance that defines contemporary dining today.

Hmmpf. Casual elegance in the contemporary setting *I'll* be dining in consists of making sure you doubled up on the anti-perspirant before you went in....
