Little things make it worth it.

I'm busier'n a (insert hackneyed metaphor here) right now - and will be through the end of July.  Next week I go wheels up for a trip to Fort Knox to do some tedious, finicky, but important work, if we aren't going to waste several million dollars.

It's times like this when the blog can be an anchor - especially when you have something with the light and heat of the DoD blogging posts on Friday and Monday.  It drags you down and keeps you fixed to where you can't move.

But, whenever I ponder just letting the thing go, I get emails like this.

I just stumbled across your website and saw the story that you posted on August 31, 2007.

As difficult as it was to read, I am glad that I found the story.  I have met several of the Vultures including Bob Shine, Jim Ewart, Denny O'Brien, Bob Good, and even Major Beauchamp (sp.).  I have spoken with several more over email, but none could recall with great clarity what had happened that day.

Thanks for the post.

Bill Laurence
This is the post in question, one Bill did - called Clearing Out Cobwebs.  I had a little follow-up.

I told Mr. Laurence that I didn't write that post, Vulture One-Five, Bill Tuttle did, and I forwarded the note on to Bill

I'm glad the post was a service, and not a burden to him.  I know it could have gone either way.

We honor our fallen brothers and sisters when we get the chance.  It's a core piece of Castle Argghhh!.

And emails like that get me over the humps.  At least until someone's willing to pay me to do this full-time.

he keeps saying that like its a hint or somehint.  ;)

Um, well, if there's anyone out there with a wad 'o money who will pay me to do this close to what I make doing what I do... But, I'm thinking that there ain't too many bloggers being paid to blog, who make blogging what I make right now. There *are* some, but not too many, and for most of them, the blog is a part of a larger job.

Yes, I was thinking how many places would benefit from a blog.

er...and how much I enjoy it without making the money.

My blog has brought me some very unexpected emotional responses to things I've written.  It makes it so special to know you've touched someone in that way.  Most recently, I received a comment from a little girl whose mommy was killed by a drunk driver.  I did several posts about it.  I cannot tell you how emotional I got reading her comment.

Anyway..... John- you should contact Keith.  He's at Knox now, but will leave for Rucker in a few weeks for some training.
