HBO AND CORPORATE PARTNERS TEAM UP TO SEND DONATIONS AND
SUPPORT U.S. TROOPS STATIONED IN AFGANISTAN AND IRAQ
In honor of the Marines of Generation Kill, and all of our troops stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan, HBO and its partners are sending care packages overseas containing the items troops most frequently request. The troops have determined the items--YOU determine how many are sent.
Donations can be placed at no cost to you by going to www.genkilltroopdrive.com and following three quick steps.
The donation drive starts NOW and will continue through the finale of the Generation Kill miniseries on August 24th. All donations will be shipped overseas this fall.

If you live in the Greater Kansas City Region and like warbirds... listen up!

Heart of America wing show takes flight for weekend

The Commemorative Air Force's Air Expo returns for a seventh year in Gardner on Saturday and Sunday.

The Commemorative Air Force Heart of America Wing 2008 Air Expo is Saturday and Sunday at the New Century AirCenter in Gardner in Johnson County.
The free shows start at 9 a.m. both days and run until 5 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday.
The featured machine is Sentimental Journey, the CAF's restored B-17 bomber. Visitors willing to make donations will have the option of taking a ride on it for $425. Rides will be available on other planes for donations ranging from $80 to $895 (for the P-51 Mustang, a fighter plane).
A replica Japanese Zero, a Taylorcraft L-2 Grasshopper and a Boeing PT-17 Stearman are among the 21 other aircraft that will be at the show. Other activities include swing band concerts, a children's hangar with aviation-related activities, a Veteran's Table with World War II veterans and a new show of more than 50 vintage military vehicles and World War II era automobiles.
This is the seventh CAF show in Gardner. Kim Pardon, media coordinator, said an F-18 will arrive at 11 a.m. Saturday and two F-10s will do a fly-by between noon and 1 p.m. Saturday. Beyond that "there's no set schedule, but we will have lots of airplanes take off and land and fly around," she said.
To get there, take Old U.S. 56 to 159th Street. Turn west on 159th and follow the signs to the Commemorative Air Force hangar.

I'll be the grey-bearded fat guy with the camera wishing I could find the gumption to spring for a flight in the Sentimental Journey...

*A term of art from the artillery. Harassment and Interdiction Fires. Back in the day, when you could just kill people and break things without a note from a lawyer, they were pre-planned, but to the enemy, random, fires at known gathering points, road junctions, Main Supply Routes, assembly areas, etc - to keep the bad guy nervous that the world around him might start exploding at any minute. Not really relevant to today's operating environment, right? But, it *is*. The UAVs we fly over Afghanistan and Pakistan looking for targets of opportunity are a form of H&I fires, if you really want to parse it finely. We just have better sensors and fire control now. Of course, now I have to call them UAS's, because someone got a Legion of Merit for the name change.Anyway, I call the post H&I Fires because it's random things posted by me and people I've given posting privileges to that particular topic. Another term of art that might be appropriate is Free Fire Zone.
