Full disclosure - I was married in the Unitarian Church, my first wedding. I am not a Unitarian. I find them a nearly perfect example of cafeteria-style religion. "I would point out he was smart enough to target a "liberal" church, the Unitarians. Good choice cause they would be the best bet to be disarmed. Now, conservative Southern Baptists in Tennesse on the other hand....."

First off, it was Knoxville, not Nashville (way to go Reuters, you idiots. They are a couple hundred miles apart). Secondly, the shooter was from the town next door to where my folks live and the church was just a few miles from them. Thirdly, knowing the area, I'd bet good money that there was someone there that was armed. Thankfully this @$$hat was subdued before any one else was hurt.
I talked to my mom and pretty much everyone is still in shock.

Actually he only got off two shots before being subdued - the third shot was into the ceiling.

The second shot, unfortunately, was directly into one of the men rushing him.

Just my lady intuition here (and maybe a bit of cynicism, to boot)--he claimed that his big beef was with "liberals and their programs that were ruining society", but what do you want to bet that the straw that broke the crazy-camel back was the letter telling him he was getting cut off from food stamps?

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.

You may have noticed this, John, but the news media are really trying to cover that fact up. Cause if unarmed people can swarm under armed people... why do we need to ban handguns, again?
