A$$hat

Full disclosure - I was married in the Unitarian Church, my first wedding. I am not a Unitarian. I find them a nearly perfect example of cafeteria-style religion.

But the guy who shot up the church, killing two and wounding five... is an A$$hat.

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Reuters) - A man who opened fire inside a church, killing two people with a shotgun hidden in a guitar case, was frustrated at being unable to find a job and blamed liberals and gays, police said on Monday.

"It appears that what brought him to this horrible event was his lack of being able to obtain a job, his frustration over that, and his stated hatred of the liberal movement," Knoxville Police Chief Sterling Owen told reporters of Sunday's incident at Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church.

It brings into focus something a friend of mine sent along yesterday, and not relating to this event. I'd tell you to put on your adult pants, Mr. Adkisson, but I guess you're in issue coveralls now.

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway.

What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, will often be forgotten. Do good anyway.

Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway.

In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.

So, Mr. adkisson, your life was having a tough spot. Get over it. Don't grab a gun.

A$$hat.

It ain't all about you, buddy. Heh. I get that peeved a liberals and their works... I blog.

Does that mean break their necks first or break their fingers and crush their balls first when they come into your touch toting a shotgun? I don't get it, John. Help me out here.

You might want to check out Grim's latest, recent, post about Manipulation and Deception. It might be more your cup of tea.

"I don't think he expected to leave there alive, and were it not for the hasty actions of some of the other people in the sanctuary there may have been more fatalities," Owen said.

The suspect fired three blasts before being subdued by congregants.

You may have noticed this, John, but the news media are really trying to cover that fact up. Cause if unarmed people can swarm under armed people... why do we need to ban handguns, again? Oh, because serfs and peasants with caught with an armor piercing longbow arrow or a crossbow is a hanging offense because it is seen as "intent to kill a noble". I get it now.

Just my lady intuition here (and maybe a bit of cynicism, to boot)--he claimed that his big beef was with "liberals and their programs that were ruining society", but what do you want to bet that the straw that broke the crazy-camel back was the letter telling him he was getting cut off from food stamps?

Actually he only got off two shots before being subdued - the third shot was into the ceiling.

The second shot, unfortunately, was directly into one of the men rushing him.

First off, it was Knoxville, not Nashville (way to go Reuters, you idiots. They are a couple hundred miles apart). Secondly, the shooter was from the town next door to where my folks live and the church was just a few miles from them. Thirdly, knowing the area, I'd bet good money that there was someone there that was armed. Thankfully this @$$hat was subdued before any one else was hurt.
I talked to my mom and pretty much everyone is still in shock.

A comment on the topic, from email:

"I would point out he was smart enough to target a "liberal" church, the Unitarians. Good choice cause they would be the best bet to be disarmed. Now, conservative Southern Baptists in Tennesse on the other hand....."
