Open post for those with something to share, updated through the day. New, complete posts come in below this one. Note: If trackbacking, please acknowledge this post in your post. That's only polite. You're advertising here, we should get an ad at your place... Time to add a new caveat, because from email it's not clear to some folks (mind you, if you don't read this it won't matter...) Being an open post, people (collectively, the Denizens) other than I post in the H&I. They sign their work (most of the time) - keep that in mind when you want to flame someone in email please - if it doesn't say "The Armorer" or "John" then I didn't write it! And honestly - if you don't like something said or posted... leave a comment, and hash it out .

He doesn't get on with his own party's presidential candidate, who is clearly distancing himself, and had lost many of his closest friends and staff to scandals and forced resignations. The New Republic, a hugely influential political magazine, writes that his historical reputation will be as bad as that of President Harding, the disastrous president of the Great Depression.
Like we haven't heard this before. Oh, wait - we *have*. The comments are a hoot. -the Armorer

Unintentional Irony Department. Not the point of Salena Zito's bit at Townhall today... but these bits jumped out at me:
Kerry said Dean’s tireless campaigning meant a lot to him: “He was a man of his word and he was a hell of a good soldier. I still remember sitting in the motorcade with Howard, headed to his endorsement speech at George Washington (University). He told me he'd do anything, be anywhere, and say anything that'd help us.
He told me he'd do anything, be anywhere, and say anything that'd help us.
Heh. And set the standard for this year's democratic candidate, eh? -the Armorer

JTG, no word, yet. The PAO Master Chief had left orders that the ship call her as soon as it was found--anytime day or night. Considering that I haven't heard anything (I called the PAO this morning, but the Chief wasn't in yet and he'd heard nothing), hope is dimming. It breaks my heart and it makes no sense. We (there were two of us missing things) placed our items directly in a bag held by the crusty Chief in charge in the C-2 briefing room. From the way the sailors responded to him, it was obvious he was no-nonsense and squared away. How that bag didn't make it from the briefing room to the plane 50 steps away and then onward to the base is just beyond comprehension.
