From a press release: "Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has nominated Lt. Gen. Ann E. Dunwoody of the Army for appointment to the grade of general and assignment as commander, Army Materiel Command.

Huh? Did we read the same bio? She commanded two battalions, a divsion support command, a corps support command, and then Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, and was in charge of all doctrine and training for the Combat Service Support folks. And held a few high level staff jobs. What would you have said if she was male? Because that's exactly the kind of pedigree her predecessor in the job would have. Or are you suggesting that only combat arms officers can be four-star generals, regardless of the responsibilities of the position? I'm confused where you can call this an affirmative action promotion.

Having read her bio, one can only conclude this is an affirmative action promotion. Her gender and DoD / Army policy governing combat, reflect she made her career as a beaucracat.

I thought it was a good crack in the ceiling when my MI Advanced Course classmate became DCSINT and LTG Kennedy.

Geez, all I did was look for a freely-usable DoD-sourced picture... I wasn't into seeing if she was a war-heroette or not! From the ribbons in other pictures - it looks like she's a Desert Storm vet. In fact, digging deeper, she was the Division Parachute Officer for the 82nd during Desert Shield and Desert Storm, and she's done more since.

See! See! All it took was a woman brave enough to run for president and shatter the glass ceiling into 18 million shards that allowed this to happen.

Wait for the spin and someone in Senator, Miz Bubbas camp to make this claim.
