Time to add a new caveat, because from email it's not clear to some folks (mind you, if you don't read this it won't matter...) Being an open post, people (collectively, the Denizens) other than I post in the H&I. They sign their work (most of the time) - keep that in mind when you want to flame someone in email please - if it doesn't say "The Armorer" or "John" then I didn't write it! And honestly - if you don't like something said or posted... leave a comment, and hash it out (within the context of The Rulez which are clearly posted on the comment form, I would add).

I'm thinking the best thing about this picture are the hortator's ears...

U.S. Navy Seabees assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 5 row for the Navy's "dragon boat" team during an annual competition in Naha City, Okinawa, Japan, May 5, 2008. U.S. Navy photo by Petty Officer 2nd Class Rex H. Nelson
I suppose it's apt, really - given that the voice of those ears debuted as a steamboat captain... -the Armorer

Over at Stop The ACLU, Jay reports that he has validated his evolutionary ticket... he's the proud father of... Reagan. -the Armorer

Hedy Lamarr - more than a pretty face.
Blogfather Jonah has on op-ed on Yucca Mountain and Gitmo - which said conflation has stoked the ire of milblogger-from-the-left Jason over at Armchair Generalist. Leaving aside the total merits of the argument (read 'em both, make your own judgements) I'm with Jason in his opinion of the political class. We disagree on who represents a solution (Jason is an Obama fan, I want a new slate of options...) -the Armorer

Cameras on police officer handguns? As long as they don't interfere with draw and use, I don't see a huge downside. If they weren't so expensive, I'd consider one for training, too - one that integrated a laser. You could do a pretty good shooter analysis watching the laser dance - especially on trigger-pull. Speaking of stuff from Kevin - I'm thinking that if this womyn wants to play "Who's got the strongest grip?" when shaking hands - let her win, don't make her win. -the Armorer

Please.
I'll let you know if there's a PayPal account to do so. Otherwise, snail mail. -Instapilot

*A term of art from the artillery. Harassment and Interdiction Fires.
Back in the day, when you could just kill people and break things without a note from a lawyer, they were pre-planned, but to the enemy, random, fires at known gathering points, road junctions, Main Supply Routes, assembly areas, etc - to keep the bad guy nervous that the world around him might start exploding at any minute.
Not really relevant to today's operating environment, right? But, it *is*
The UAVs we fly over Afghanistan and Pakistan looking for targets of opportunity are a form of H&I fires, if you really want to parse it finely. We just have better sensors and fire control now.
I call the post that because it's random things posted by me and people I've given posting privileges to that particular topic. Another term of art that might be appropriate is "Free Fire Zone".
