[Kat] Marines give famed Mameluke Swords to the Barbary Pir....er...Anbar Awakening Sheiks. The Marines recently presented the Mameluke swords. The Mameluke sword is the prized emblem of Marine officers and a reminder of the cooperation between Arab forces and expeditionary Marines in the fight against Barbary Pirates in 1805. Spirit of America back story Now you know why abu Tariq wrote in his diary that al Qaeda was dying in Anbar. More in flash traffic...

Wow, talk about coming a full circle. Thanks for the links to the articles, too. That really put the ceremony in context.

Warrior to Warrior.

the spirit behind that presentation and the good will engendered by it are without price.

this is how to win a war.

I like this post very much!!! I knew who that Marine was as soon as I saw the picture. My husband served under Gen. Allen years ago. I know his wife is so excited that he's coming home.

It's very cool that they've given the Al Anbar sheikhs Mamelukes. Pre-coffee, it strikes me as completing a circle...
Probably won't make sense post coffee...:)
