At least if you're an anti- for whom the only acceptable narrative is that the war was botched (fair enough on some points), that it's hopeless (news isn't helping there), the troops home yesterday as the only acceptable solution, and the American People hate you, George Bush and your murdering myrmidons, as evidenced by the fact you can't seduce the poor and downtrodden to be cannon-fodder in your illegals wars of Imperial Hegemoney™ [sic].
The recruiting numbers for October.
Active Duty Recruiting Numbers:
Army: 101% of goal.
Navy: 100% of goal.
Marine Corps: 102% of goal.
Air Force: 100% of goal.
Reserve Component:
Army National Guard: 123% of goal
Army Reserve: 104% of goal
Navy Reserve: 112% of goal
Marine Corps Reserve: 100% of goal
Air National Guard: 134% of goal
Air Force Reserve: 100% of goal
Given all the angst (justifiable, a good bit of it) about the Guard and Reserve, these are pretty nice numbers for the period, especially if they are sustained.. Certainly, they undoubtedly reflect the impact of increased bonuses, and I freely admit I'm not up on the current changes in standards.
Of course, the anti- spin is that the bonuses make us all mercenaries-in-fact, and that a popular war would be supported by hordes of people working for nearly free. Heh.
Update: And a criticism offered from the Right is the possibility that the goals were just adjusted to match reality. If so - really dumb move in this day and age. H/t, Brab for the observation.
