Open post for those with something to share, updated through the day. New, complete posts come in below this one. Note: If trackbacking, please acknowledge this post in your post. That's only polite. You're advertising here, we should get an ad at your place... Time to add a new caveat, because from email it's not clear to some folks (mind you, if you don't read this it won't matter...) Being an open post, people (collectively, the Denizens) other than I post in the H&I. They sign their work (most of the time) - keep that in mind when you...

11C....that was my *midlife crisis*. Picked up the MOS at age 44 at Benning during a somewhat misguided attempt at Army Reserve service/last shot at 20 years before age 60.....

But then.....that's a whole 'nuther story, and even with 3 years in FRG, I never could eat kraut. VN + 37 barely allows for roast beef or rice.

We're anxiously awaiting word that #2 Son is headed home from Afganistan in the next week or so.......believe me,

it's easier being there than having a kid there.

This one was a little easier than his first two laps in Iraq, though.

Don't forget it's Christmas season. Send something to the Sandbox. Perhaps you have someone you know and that's great. If you don't Sam recommends this Marine 1st Sgt who is asking for his troops ... the ones who come from broken homes ... and who never get mail.

Here is what he says at Any Marine

"From the Marine:

15 Nov 2007:
The Marines are doing well out here and really do appreciate all the packages that have been sent. They really enjoyed the magazines and the female Marines were extremely happy with the female care packages and magazines. The entire Marines share all the DVD's and CD's that was sent in their off time.

The items requested for have been great however, the Marines are constantly running mission after mission and do need items that will keep them warm this winter such as glove liners, ski masks (Preferably tan or desert color), hand warmers, canned food items and easy to pack snacks, dri-fit wear long sleeve shirts, and female hygiene items. I would like to see the Marines get some Holiday gifts, because I do have some Marines with broken homes and are not receiving gifts or letters. I give them some of the packages or take things out of a few packages and make up a package and then give it those Marines that are not getting mail. So, if you can remember those Marines in your hearts for this holiday season to show them people out there do care about them and what they do!

1stSgt Lightle"

Or find a Soldier or Sailor or Airman ... it gets cold there around the holidays.

Remember them and s***w Seitor Reid.

H/T to the rulz.
