You may have seen pics of the "Rolling Tribute" trucks on US highways. Courtesy CAPT H, we find there is one rolling on Canadian highways as well, thanks to Larry Josie. If you know of more, US or Canadian, drop a link in the comments.

CAPT H sends along this link, talking about Canada's troops fighting as a NATO component in Afghanistan: NATO 'on top of our game' in Afghanistan.

Changing subjects only slightly - the war on HOA's (Home Owners Associations) continues, with Murray escalating the pressure:

First trebuchets now clothes lines???

Ok I have a new spreadsheet just made for this situation.

Tell me the weight of your HOA president and I'll tell you the required throwing arm length and counter weight needed to drop the loser 900-1,000 feet away.

If you're confused, you probably ought to go... here and then here. C'mon, click the links if Murray's comment is confusing. You want to know what a trebuchet has to do with a HOA doncha? Much less how they're linked to a clothesline...

Mr. T's Haircut (which comments around here, presumably without Mr. T's knowledge) offers up this on President Ahmadinejad's visit:

He got exactly what he wanted

It was used for propaganda purposes. I wonder of the Faculty and alumni at Columbia realize what tools they have become. (no mention of Pres Bollingers commentary, nor Ahmadinejad’s ridiculous comments about the Holocaust and Isreal.

Freedom of speech I guess…

From the Islamic Republic News Agency:

“Despite entire US media objections, negative propagation and hue and cry in recent days over IRI President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's scheduled address at Colombia University , he gave his lecture and answered students questions here on Monday afternoon.

On second day of his entry in New York , and amid standing ovation of the audience that had attended the hall where the Iranian President was to give his lecture as of early hours of the day, Ahmadinejad said that Iran is not going to attack any country in the world.

Before President Ahamadinejad's address, Colombia University Chancellor in a brief address told the audience that they would have the chance to hear Iran 's stands as the Iranian President would put them forth.

He said that the Iranians are a peace loving nation, they hate war, and all types of aggression.

Referring to the technological achievements of the Iranian nation in the course of recent years, the president considered them as a sign for the Iranians' resolute will for achieving sustainable development and rapid advancement.

The audience on repeated occasion applauded Ahmadinejad when he touched on international crises.

At the end of his address President Ahmadinejad answered the students' questions on such issues as Israel , Palestine , Iran 's nuclear program, the status of women in Iran and a number of other matters. “

Mr. T's Haircut will be deploying to Afghanistan soon - and is set to take up the reins of the Castle's Man in the 'Stan, as our current correspondent Joe is getting short over there. We hope that Mr. T won't raise a stink about his Haircut deploying. It's a small price to pay.

I'm guessing this doesn't apply to many readers of this space... but if you're considering Senator Clinton for the office of the President of the United States - give this bit about bullying GQ magazine a read.

To close this out for now - meet Sergeant Rock. -the Armorer

Here's a classy story of personal politics potentially infecting the decisions of public servants - San Francisco Film Commission Executive Director Stefanie Coyote denied a film crew permission to film for a Marine commercial "If there were any military personnel present." Ms. Coyote's rather tart response when questioned initially was "It's a traffic control issue." SF Police Captain Greg Corrales, the former Marine who commands the citiy's Traffic Bureau said, "That's bunk." USA Today has queried her further and will post her response when she does so. I suppose the most charitable logic is that the presence of armed, uniformed Marines, in the form of the USMC Silent Drill Team, would so incite the peaceful residents of San Francisco that they would all roller-blade, bike, and Prius their way to the site to engage in peaceful protest of such savage martial imagery in their city... *A term of art from the artillery. Harassment and Interdiction Fires.

Back in the day, when you could just kill people and break things without a note from a lawyer, they were pre-planned, but to the enemy, random, fires at known gathering points, road junctions, Main Supply Routes, assembly areas, etc - to keep the bad guy nervous that the world around him might start exploding at any minute.

*Not really relevant to today's operating environment, right? But, it *is*

The UAVs (oops, can't call 'em UAVs anymore - they're now Unmanned Aerial Systems... some Colonel got his Legion of Merit for that change...), er, um UAS's we fly over Afghanistan and Pakistan looking for targets of opportunity are a form of H&I fires, if you really want to parse it finely. We just have better sensors and fire control now.

I call the post that because it's random things posted by me and people I've given posting privileges to. It's also an open trackback, so if someone has a post they're proud of, but it really isn't either Castle kind of stuff, or topical to a particular post, I've basically given blanket permission to use that post for that purpose. Another term of art that might be appropriate is "Free Fire Zone"

just dang. when i read the words "That day Joe Musial earned his first Silver Star..." all the hairs stood up on my arm... God rest him well.

The venerable (that's shorthand for old) CAPT H is slow off the mark with his tip about the truck. I posted about Larry Josie's tribute truck last week!

Yeah...knew exactly what all the hype for Ahmadinejad was. He wanted to tell his internal foes, the ones that he has cut off from all outside media except radio farsi and the few who can figure out how to get past their internet blockade, that here in America, they had little support for their democracy movements and demands for peace. Instead, they loved him for standing up to American bully politics and no one dared call him a petty and cruel dictator. I wonder and I hope that the real outcome of his visit is translated into Farsi and makes it to the young people. I hope radio Farsi broadcasts the truth. Anyone else think that this is like the Monty Python version of the Cold War? The propaganda is so overt it is insane.

Re: Rolling Tributes I got this in an email from Bill Steiner. Not sure how I got on his list, but it's usually soemthing interesting.

Ahmadinejad got what he wanted. Where were the tasers then? Moonbats in SF...oh puhleeze don't get me started. The ONLY thing I miss about California is the lovely, marvelous air conditioned weather of the Middle Kingdom, aka Monterey County. I can just see the hysteria now over Marines trodding on Gorbachev's former sacred ground of the former Presidio. Summer of love indeed...
