My Internet access at the hotel is about to expire, and last time I went through Reagan, they didn't have wi-fi, (that was in January) though that may have changed. We'll be getting back before noon, so I expect I'll have some time to put some stuff up this afternoon, but I'll put up the H&I for tomorrow today - and leave you with this teaser...

I spent the day at the Gathering of Eagles rally *and* the ANSWER rally, and then with the ProtestWarrior Counterprotest group thanks to Concrete Bob of DC Protest Warrior..

The "Quotation of the Rotation" was:

"You're too well dressed to be here."

More to follow. -the Armorer

MoveOn.org has a new ad. If you try and follow the (non-existent) logic, it's actually amusing--it purports to be about Bush, but ends up condemning congress by logical implication.

In Iraq, Sunni Sheik Rishawi's murder could be developing some silver linings. The Shia-led government has declared him a "martyr," and his brother is vowing to be undeterred in working toward safety and peace in al Anbar. And now Shia are stepping up elsewhere, motivated they say by Rishawi's "martyrdom." Nothing is firm or guaranteed, but I'm starting to bet my money there's a developing sense among a majority of Iraqis that defense of country trumps sectarian divides (decision to fight al Qaeda). Especially when those sectarian divides are fed by AQ's blood-drenched hands. And it doesn't help that supposedly-Sunni AQ has declared all Sunnis who work with Americans will be killed.

On a much lighter note, Lex snarks on the Cranium of Argghhh.

Finally, a bit of self-promotion: for my Castle friends who didn't know what was happening behind the scenes, Part I of how I became a milblogger and ended up with Valour-IT. - FbL

Regarding the company selected milbloggers were keeping on Friday... remember this? - FbL

More good news from Iraq--less in the catching of the bad guy than in the context in which it was done. [Link fixed. Thanks, JMH.]

The Hsu scandal gets bigger and uglier. - FbL

*A term of art from the artillery. Harassment and Interdiction Fires.

Back in the day, when you could just kill people and break things without a note from a lawyer, they were pre-planned, but to the enemy, random, fires at known gathering points, road junctions, Main Supply Routes, assembly areas, etc - to keep the bad guy nervous that the world around him might start exploding at any minute.

*Not really relevant to today's operating environment, right? But, it *is*

The UAVs (oops, can't call 'em UAVs anymore - they're now Unmanned Aerial Systems... some Colonel got his Legion of Merit for that change...), er, um UAS's we fly over Afghanistan and Pakistan looking for targets of opportunity are a form of H&I fires, if you really want to parse it finely. We just have better sensors and fire control now.

I call the post that because it's random things posted by me and people I've given posting privileges to. It's also an open trackback, so if someone has a post they're proud of, but it really isn't either Castle kind of stuff, or topical to a particular post, I've basically given blanket permission to use that post for that purpose. Another term of art that might be appropriate is "Free Fire Zone"

I think this is the CQ link you want. Cheers

Thanks, JMH. That's what I get for starting to post things on H&I, then suddenly remembering something I saw earlier that I wanted to blog on at my place. Got myself all turned around.

Yeah, that sorta thing happens when you go surfing on a scallop shell...
