Been wondering if "Castle Denizen" Sgt. B dropped off the face of the earth? Fortunately, he didn't. But he's been a very busy Guardsman-Marine. As he puts it, "Chief Bill is gonna be proud of me." - FbL

[Oh, I think we *all* can be proud of you, Sergeant B. Not just the Chief. Too bad for Amphibum, however. Heh - if you want to understand that last reference, you'll have to click the link... -the Armorer]

Jules Crittenden's Sunday Magazine. No, this link does not have any relation to the linky-love Jules sent our way. Nope. -the Armorer

Don't forget--tonight (5:00 p.m. Pacific) is my interview on Talking with Heroes. Holly Aho is filling in for Bob Calvert, since he's busy in Iraq. Some of you may remember Holly Aho from her early efforts in building Valour-IT. The interview agenda is fluid, but it's expected to cover the development of Valour-IT, stories of the people it serves, and perhaps a bit about my other "troop support" activities. - FbL

John Edwards has had a rough week. The link is worth a read, if just for the closing line. - FbL

*A term of art from the artillery. Harassment and Interdiction Fires.

Back in the day, when you could just kill people and break things without a note from a lawyer, they were pre-planned, but to the enemy, random, fires at known gathering points, road junctions, Main Supply Routes, assembly areas, etc - to keep the bad guy nervous that the world around him might start exploding at any minute.

*Not really relevant to today's operating environment, right? But, it *is*

The UAVs (oops, can't call 'em UAVs anymore - they're now Unmanned Aerial Systems... some Colonel got his Legion of Merit for that change...), er, um UAS's we fly over Afghanistan and Pakistan looking for targets of opportunity are a form of H&I fires, if you really want to parse it finely. We just have better sensors and fire control now.

I call the post that because it's random things posted by me and people I've given posting privileges to. It's also an open trackback, so if someone has a post they're proud of, but it really isn't either Castle kind of stuff, or topical to a particular post, I've basically given blanket permission to use that post for that purpose. Another term of art that might be appropriate is "Free Fire Zone"

One of the Pak mechs overheard Carborundum grumbling in a corner of the hangar and told me the djinn were whining about the heat, being bored, no HBO, etc. One squad of GAs inbound, B. With my compliments. BTW, Detrius gets airsick. Tie him to the left skid or he'll go chumming for birds right in your LOS (or your lap) just as sure as Dodge City was paved with horse apples...
