WOUNDED 'BLACK LION' RE-UPS BEFORE MEDICAL EVACUATION

Someone you should know. No Summer Soldier, this Staff Sergeant Jordan. 'Black Lion' re-ups before medical evacuation "> By Sgt. 1st Class Robert Timmons 4th IBCT, 1st Inf. Div. PAO BAGHDAD, Iraq - When a Soldier is wounded by an improvised explosive device and is about to be medically evacuated out of Iraq, one of the last things he would probably think about is extending his military career. But not for Staff Sgt. Redic Jordan, an infantryman with Company B, 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division. Jordan reenlisted in the Army June 30...

I hate to say it, but I thought the same thing about the taxability of the bonus. HOWEVER... it wouldn't have mattered to this guy- he was going to re-up no matter if he was in Iraq or not. You can just tell from that picture- he's proud to have re-upped! And considering how high re-enlistment rates are amongst those who have been deployed(or are currently deployed), I'm not at all surprised with his decision.

DAMN KEWL

Yup, that looks like a guy thinking carefully about the tax implications of re-enlisting while his ears are still ringing from the bomb blast all right.

Well, even if HL's supposition is true - I'm glad for him to have the bonus tax-free. I wouldn't mind if the tax-free thing could be made to follow the troops while they recuperate as well - up until they either Resume active duty or they separate from the military.

Sigh. Spoil it for me, whydoncha?

Next you'll be telling me the Re-Up NCOs are keyed to hang around the CSH during casualty events...

And we'll be reading *that* on Daily Kos shortly, no doubt.

Well, prolly not. I doubt the Kossacks visit here much.

The fact that any re-up bonus he might earn is tax-free in Iraq, but not in Germany, might have had a bit to do with why he did it before heading to Landstuhl instead of after he got there.

But it does make for a good story, since I'm sure he planned to re-up during his tour anyway.
