A term of art from the artillery. Harassment and Interdiction Fires.

Back in the day, when you could just kill people and break things without a note from a lawyer, they were pre-planned, but to the enemy, random, fires at known gathering points, road junctions, Main Supply Routes, assembly areas, etc - to keep the bad guy nervous that the world around him might start exploding at any minute.

*Not really relevant to today's operating environment, right? But, it *is*

The UAVs (oops, can't call 'em UAVs anymore - they're now Unmanned Aerial Systems... some Colonel got his Legion of Merit for that change...), er, um UAS's we fly over Afghanistan and Pakistan looking for targets of opportunity are a form of H&I fires, if you really want to parse it finely. We just have better sensors and fire control now.

I call the post that because it's random things posted by me and people I've given posting privileges to. It's also an open trackback, so if someone has a post they're proud of, but it really isn't either Castle kind of stuff, or topical to a particular post, I've basically given blanket permission to use that post for that purpose. Another term of art that might be appropriate is "Free Fire Zone".

Sam of "Samantha Speaks" Is a hard corps military supporter. She was urging us all to write to "General's Pace and Petraeus" and tell them of your support. Well she got a response from Gen Petraeus, and she talks about it here: Even General's Notice Your Support! Update - Harry Reid Back Off "It hasn't even been a month since I wrote the post about Harry Reid's criticism of General's Pace and Petraeus. Immediately after I made that post I sent my letters of support to both Generals. Today I received a hand written note from General Petraeus thanking me for my support. He referred to our troops as "the new greatest generation." I like that title for this generation of Warriors, I like it a lot!" Sam like lots of the women here is a real Red, White and Blue kinda girl.

mmmmm... Thanks to JMH, I think I'll have a delicious piece of codd tonight... mmmmmm

Well, I'd love to talk about things I know about things that go on in terms of potential terrorism right here in the heartland, but then, nobody believes it. I especially love the "we don't have anything to worry about because it is a bogey man made up by the government" folks. How I'd like to smack them in the face with a few little tidbits. but you can't, so they have to walk around in ignorance and I get to be frustrated as hell listening to their yak-yak.

Love the codpiece. what fashion will we be getting here at the Castle? Huevos rancheros or be-ribboned foofy?

Eh. Years ago I tried to link a pattern for knitted willy covers to Jet Noise and the stupid puter wouldn't let me. Prolly just as well. But they were definately anatomically correct. Of course, it would be assumed that a spouse or SO would be the one to ahem take the measure of said part. That said, wouldn't it be a codd-codd? And I can just hear Rizzio snarking away: "I bet he stuffs!"
