"The body of defence attache Tom Mooney was found in a remote part of the Mediterranean island. There is no confirmation by police or the US. The 45-year-old, who was married with children, was last seen leaving the US embassy in his Chevrolet Saloon car."
Lt. Col Thomas Mooney was the Embassy's military attache.....Maggie

Back in the day, when you could just kill people and break things without a note from a lawyer, they were pre-planned, but to the enemy, random, fires at known gathering points, road junctions, Main Supply Routes, assembly areas, etc - to keep the bad guy nervous that the world around him might start exploding at any minute.

*Not really relevant to today's operating environment, right? But, it *is*

The UAVs (oops, can't call 'em UAVs anymore - they're now Unmanned Aerial Systems... some Colonel got his Legion of Merit for that change...), er, um UAS's we fly over Afghanistan and Pakistan looking for targets of opportunity are a form of H&I fires, if you really want to parse it finely. We just have better sensors and fire control now.

I call the post that because it's random things posted by me and people I've given posting privileges to. It's also an open trackback, so if someone has a post they're proud of, but it really isn't either Castle kind of stuff, or topical to a particular post, I've basically given blanket permission to use that post for that purpose. Another term of art that might be appropriate is "Free Fire Zone".

Was the terrorist come from such and such background supposed to be the same link twice Fuzzy? I'm trying to remember, since the link is saved on the 'puter I gave to my Mom, but it was either a Harvard or other Ivy League prof who had done some research and done a pysch profile of terrs. Released, oh, late '04 I think. He was getting much flack for it. Dude was from the ME too.

RIP Tom Mooney. he's a redleg, wearing a Blackhorse patch, but no KLM. hmm. i'm thinking i should know him, but i can't place him at all. anyone?

Caint helpya, MajMike, but I read Blackhorse and think David Drake. What he said about his Viet-Nam experience, as I recall reading: "They were the people I was alone together with." If that makes any sense.

1. I hope the find the perp responsible for Tom Mooney’s death and bring him to justice. 2. I am glad Bush commuted Scooter's prison sentence (someone should take up a collection for his fine). 3. The Islamic doctors sure fooled the Brits. Hopefully, the Brits will learn that “brilliant” people don’t equate to friendly people. In fact, they can be just the opposite.
