Good golly, what the 8th Air Force could have done with this... against an enemy where infrastructure targets are good targets (unlike what we're facing right now)... that said - look for an even greater scurry to find ways to effectively jam GPS. More details about B2 bomb trucks here. Don't piss off Missouri - they've got a heckuva weapon system sitting at Whiteman AFB...
The Ghost of a Flea sent this house-warming gift...
Just in case you've missed it elsewhere... more debunking of the *excellent* reportage of the AP, over at Confederate Yankee.
Moving on... today in history.
First up: Dominion Canada Day! Happy Birthday to our Northron friends! A big fruity raspberry to any Northron enemies we might have! On this day in 1916 - the Canadians proved their metal as stand-up warriors in the Battle of the Somme.
The Red Ensign flies from the staff today. Which probably confuses the locals.
Dropping south to Pennsylvania...
Major General John Reynolds - "Troops should be led, not driven." Dies this day at Gettysburg, exemplifying the type of leadership that induces men to fight for a leader.
And further south, into the Caribbean...
There are two Father-Son Medal holder families. The first is the MacArthurs, Arthur and Douglas, who earned theirs serially, in the Civil War and WWII. The second are the Roosevelts - where son Theodore Jr. was awarded his first, for actions on June 6, 1944, and father Theodore, whose award was posthumous, being presented to Tweed Roosevelt, Teddy's great-grandson, in 2001. Teddy earned his at San Juan Hill, during the Spanish American War.

*A term of art from the artillery. Harassment and Interdiction Fires.
Back in the day, when you could just kill people and break things without a note from a lawyer, they were pre-planned, but to the enemy, random, fires at known gathering points, road junctions, Main Supply Routes, assembly areas, etc - to keep the bad guy nervous that the world around him might start exploding at any minute.
*Not really relevant to today's operating environment, right? But, it *is*
The UAVs (oops, can't call 'em UAVs anymore - they're now Unmanned Aerial Systems... some Colonel got his Legion of Merit for that change...), er, um UAS's we fly over Afghanistan and Pakistan looking for targets of opportunity are a form of H&I fires, if you really want to parse it finely. We just have better sensors and fire control now.
I call the post that because it's random things posted by me and people I've given posting privileges to. It's also an open trackback, so if someone has a post they're proud of, but it really isn't either Castle kind of stuff, or topical to a particular post, I've basically given blanket permission to use that post for that purpose. Another term of art that might be appropriate is "Free Fire Zone".
