Concern in the heartland...

...though not quite of the same nature as covered in yesterday's H&I Fires.

The Armorer fires the evening salute

An email this morning:

Some folks that hang out at the feed store are convinced that some kind of extremist muslim terrorist camp has been started up in the Easton area. Seems there have been reports of explosions and gunfire coming from those parts. Care to make a statement, sir?

The Official Response from Castle Argghhh! PR:

No worries!

I want to assure my new neighbors that we're not being over-run by any diaperhat-wearing poopy-heads. It's a buncha right-wing wackadoos, so they should stand down their worry-gene.

Rotarians, mostly. You know how dangerous *those* guys are!

Come to think of it - they all have military training, too, and at least two have significant arsenals that include small artillery.

But it's far more "Dad's Army" and "Gomer Pyle, USMC" than it is "24." No need for a Ruby Ridge or Waco op.

Gad, one of those buffoons didn't even have a magazine in his weapon, for pity's sake!

The Armorer doing a little dry-firing.

Don't take this the wrong way, John.... but damn! I'm glad you're not my neighbor right now. All that gun fire would drive me insane.

Well, if you were my *closest* neighbor, you'd still be a quarter-mile away... Actually, we have a plan to build some permanent shooting places, with benches and berms, and the berms will help channel the noise and reduce sound levels.

Enjoy it while you can, John. If these guys are right, you might shortly find the price of ammunition going through the roof. If you can get it at all. (If you try to wade through the linked pdf, be aware that the first 44 pages are bureaucratese. The actual text of the proposed regulation starts on page 45.)

Yeah, I already sent my comments in. The question is... will I have to evacuate the Castle every time there's lightning in the area? I honestly don't think these regs will survive as written. But then, having *been* a federal bureaucrat...

Two quick ones for you. 1. teddy k., obama h., and chuckie s. chair the labor committe that oversees OSHIT. Any more questions on where these new regs are coming from? 2. In the Dunphy piece nowhere did I see a mention of the party affiliation of the DA mentioned. Any bets on what it is?

So John...do you fire that cannon each morning when you raise the colors?

I am touchy about noise myself. Still, I would be delighted to be located near the Castle. Because of the zombies. Always handy to know where to flee when the zombies are on their way.

The noise keeps 'em away, too, Flea.

Well, didja do the fifty-gun salute on The Day? (With appropriate comment for each state, i.e "Delaware: We were first, but haven't done much since then" and "New Jersey: You have the right to remain silent..." and "South Carolina: Too small to be a country, too large to be a lunatic asylum!"............etc.)

Slightly off topic, but... Hey! You got a hair cut! Looks great! Keep up the fire (Manchu Mantra)! Wishing you well in your new Castle!!

"Because of the zombies. Always handy to know where to flee when the zombies are on their way." Oh, come on. We zombies aren't that bad. Ask Chief Bill. Usually we just pilfer his beer. Play street hockey out in front of his domicile. And watch the guys cable televison 'cause it's to expensive to get movie channels on our own. Why's everyone always afraid of gradschool zombies? (mmmmm, brains)
