"We had surveillance on the compound all day and saw no indications there were children inside the building," said Army Maj. Chris Belcher, spokesman for the Coalition.

The military said other children who survived said that they were forced to stay inside the building throughout the day.

Now, why are we going to go ape at the targeter?

[Heh. Then there's this: Afghan officials have recently said that civilian deaths are the main concern of Afghans, and President Hamid Karzai has repeatedly called for foreign troops to do more to prevent civilian casualties.-- One hopes Mr. Karzai is asking that local Taliban troops display the same sensitivities to civilian casualties... -the Armorer]

Lawfare doesn’t just happen in Iraq and Afghanistan apparently.

Oh, and Maggs needs some tech help with moving stuff her old phone to her new one. She’s lost access to some rather beloved content and it would be good if someone could help her retrieve it.

The Armorer v. ry pay per view fight we tried shopping around but could never get a buyer for. That’s ry on the left and Armorer on the right.

[More properly, that's Ry underneath and being submissive - the Armorer]

So, Mr. Nifong can no longer practice law. Well and good. Now, how about the Duke faculty who jumped on Mr. Nifong's bandwagon. Can we see if they should no longer be allowed to practice education? I mean, do not these people set themselves up as the Ultimo in discerning judgement and erudition? Are we not supposed to generally listen to them without demur? So, again I say, can we have a review of whether or not those faculty members should be decertified from molding impressionable young minds? Just askin'. -the Armorer

I was going to mention the irony of Hamas looting Yasser Arafat's estate and parading around with his Nobel Medal, commenting on just what dross that particular award represents in the history of the Prizes... but Lex did it better, so I'll save myself the time and send you his way. More irony - Palestinians fleeing to the one place they know they'd be safe. Israel. Wonder if any Euro-heads are exploding? Naaaaaaaaaah. -the Armorer

Reader and buddy Jim C notes: FYI the Andy Rooney column in today's Killeen Daily Herald says he didn't understand the fuss about the Sopranos since he missed the show and never saw any of the others. So, in this instance, you are Andy Rooney.

Heh. Just, heh. To quote a famous blogger. -the Armorer

Write your own story... Yesterday the Armorer and SWWBO went back to the Auld Country (Columbia, Mo) to celebrate my Aunt's 90th birthday and Father's Day. We children of my father and our available family took Dad out to dinner.

Here's how the dinner conversation started:

Armorer's niece: "After the audition, the music teacher told me I should stick to straight acting, as I didn't have a solo voice."

Armorer's Sister: "This to the girl who got a "1" at state... as a soloist."

Armorer: "So, after you got your "1" at state, did you go back to the music teacher and ask him if it was okay if you got into gay acting now? Brokeback Mountain, the Musical?"

Fast Forward to the End of the Evening: "So, you mean this guy inflates his scrotum with air at nude protest gatherings?"

I defy you to fill in the blank space between those conversational bookends. I have no doubt that the Armorer's Father exercised the volume feature of his hearing aids and tuned our end of the table out... And yes, my Sister did predict I would blog this. Well, d-uh. It's not like I pretend to be a *serious* journalist. -the Armorer

Rammer and all the spuds have gone off and left Punctilious all alone. And it's her Natal Day! Drag out the RitaMatic and set the chandelier swingin'! Leave your gifts in the comments here or there.

Happy Birthday, Punctilious!! You're not allowed to get existential on us, so here's a case of Silly String for fun.

Yeah, I know I'm late. Go ahead - sue me. Besides, it's still the 18th here where I am ...

*A term of art from the artillery. Harassment and Interdiction Fires.

Back in the day, when you could just kill people and break things without a note from a lawyer, they were pre-planned, but to the enemy, random, fires at known gathering points, road junctions, Main Supply Routes, assembly areas, etc - to keep the bad guy nervous that the world around him might start exploding at any minute.

*Not really relevant to today's operating environment, right? But, it *is*

The UAVs (oops, can't call 'em UAVs anymore - they're now Unmanned Aerial Systems... some Colonel got his Legion of Merit for that change...), er, um UAS's we fly over Afghanistan and Pakistan looking for targets of opportunity are a form of H&I fires, if you really want to parse it finely. We just have better sensors and fire control now.

I call the post that because it's random things posted by me and people I've given posting privileges to. It's also an open trackback, so if someone has a post they're proud of, but it really isn't either Castle kind of stuff, or topical to a particular post, I've basically given blanket permission to use that post for that purpose. Another term of art that might be appropriate is "Free Fire Zone".

Sorry, John, all of the faculty that signed the letter condemning the accused are tenured (and that's better than being a government civilian). So... don't hold your breath waiting for justice in academia.

The Duke "Gang of 88": Liberal educators who preach that "justice should be blind" and you're "innocent until proven guilty" .... er, unless you're a white male jock from an "affluent" family.

Boycott Duke.

"inflates his scrotum with air" Sounds like the PC version of something that starts with "blow".

Two words here: Rodney King. What does he have to do with Nifong? Well, after the cops were cleared of any charges by a local jury, Daddy Bush tried and convicted them in Federal Court for violating Rodney King's civil rights. I don't like it but the situation as it currently stands is that for every local/state law, there is some national equivalent. I don't like it. It is defacto double-jeopardy and an intrusion into what should be the role of the states, but that is how it stands. So might as well make use of it in this case. The Bush administration can and should arrest Mike Nifong for violating the Civil Rights of the Duke players. The fact that Bush hasn't done so when he so eagerly arrested the boarder guards (and convicted them) is a disgrace and an insult to all who voted for him. The public, ESPECIALLY REPUBLICANS should now demand that he steps in on this case and throw Nifong into a Federal Prison to await trial. Bush has to be the worst President in American history. And the way that he is has personally betrayed his base is extremely offensive. Surely he could throw us a bone on this one couldn't he? We should demand that he does.

Are you trying to tell me scrotum inflation isn't widely practiced? Does that mean my 300psi inflation kit with adjustable seal isn't a hot item for resale on ebay? What goal is so important to murder kids? The irony is the US military are painted as the murderers but the truth lies with the ones keeping them exposed for the PR war and base protection. The worn out accusations make me sick and angry and I wish the Iraqis would speak out more about such rubbish.

There are those Iraqis that do speak out, but then they are killed by the insurgents or tortured. It is good PR to portray the troops as puppy kicking baby killing murderers so they lose heart in what they are doing. Nothing more than fifth column bs.

Thanks Barb. I love silly string! In fact I just gave some to my Brother-in-law on the occassion of his second 39th. Or some such thing. John, is the PG13 v.n+1 broken or did you just leave it at the castle?
