Things are looking up for the marquee players at Castle Argghhh!. Dusty is learning to fly a bigger, badder, better-paying bird, Bill is going to go get to fly helos again, and train young birdmen in the skillz, and SWWBO and I are buying the farm. Hmmm. That last part didn't come out quite right... The point being, we're all getting to do something we all really want to do, as opposed to doing what we have little choice to do. And that's a good thing.

Bloodspite continues his assault on the Immigration Bill.

Well it took me some digging, but I managed to find this article. I knew I had heard it somewhere, but I wasn't able to find the link and the text until tonight.

Also on my website tonight I'll be posting a long detailed report regarding the poultry bust in Springfield via a friend of mine with the Missouri State Police. Including names. How many times people have been deported previously. And other such juicy tidbits

In the meantime, here's fuel for the fire.
No wonder they're mothballing others... that's an expensive bit of kit. What I find most fascinating about this article is that the comments... are mostly from Americans. -the Armorer

Busy Angels - One More Poker Run: Operation Phone Home - since the American Legion Riders helped us out so much last weekend, we volunteered to help them this weekend with a second poker run to raise money for calling cards for our deployed. Started a little overcast, but turned out great (I have the sunburn and pictures to prove it).

Saturday, June 16 is "Military Appreciation Day" at Kauffman Stadium in KC where the Royals v. Marlins. If you don't watch the rest of the game, watch the opening ceremonies. (I can't say anything else at this moment, but will have more details later in the week- HINT).

And, keep looking out, we have something else really great in the works. It includes little balls, big clubs and famous people.

*A term of art from the artillery. Harassment and Interdiction Fires.

Back in the day, when you could just kill people and break things without a note from a lawyer, they were pre-planned, but to the enemy, random, fires at known gathering points, road junctions, Main Supply Routes, assembly areas, etc - to keep the bad guy nervous that the world around him might start exploding at any minute.

*Not really relevant to today's operating environment, right? But, it *is*

The UAVs (oops, can't call 'em UAVs anymore - they're now Unmanned Aerial Systems... some Colonel got his Legion of Merit for that change...), er, um UAS's we fly over Afghanistan and Pakistan looking for targets of opportunity are a form of H&I fires, if you really want to parse it finely. We just have better sensors and fire control now.

I call the post that because it's random things posted by me and people I've given posting privileges to. It's also an open trackback, so if someone has a post they're proud of, but it really isn't either Castle kind of stuff, or topical to a particular post, I've basically given blanket permission to use that post for that purpose. Another term of art that might be appropriate is "Free Fire Zone".

Speak it Rev. Kilcullen! Maybe we shouldn't have him over there so much as doing daily breifings over here? Just an idea. His lessons and message are rather engrained already in the boots on the ground. I think we need them more in the general populace of the US at this particular point in time. Just an idea.

Heh. Well, at least I'm using an inheritance to buy my land.

I made money the old fashioned way - by inheritance.

Ya, you're correct. Any more, it seems almost if you *want* the job, you're probably not qualified at some level to have it.

Bring back the draft...

Seems to me like the local Republican party is bankrupt on viable candidates.

Politically there was no difference between Adam Taft the Navy F-18 jockey and Dennis Moore. So it made no difference who won. Moore won Taft went to jail for using campaign funds to buy a really nifty house.

Whoever it was that they ran for governer, had trouble with public speaking.

In general they have been as interesting as a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

So we both know they will run Ryan again just because they don't know what else to do.

And as long as I am betting they will run a Woody Allen look alike against Moore, and Wally Peepers against whoever the Dems run for governer ... prolly Morrison.... the "Manly Man" who hits on women at cocktail parties

I hope the Republicans put up a different candidate. Boyda will, I think, kill Ryun. She's positioned herself well on several core issues, and as long as her votes match her rhetoric, about the only thing Ryun is going to be able to say is, "But I'm a Republican!"

Jim graduated from the William Allen White School of journalism with a degree in photojournalism in 1970. I had graduated in '69 and was in the Marines by then (my degree was Radio TV Film from the same school)

Jim is planning a comeback you probably saw the story in the Star Magazine. I feel sorry for the guy. That doesn't mean I would support him either.
He just seems clueless.

That's pretty much the criteria I applied to Jim Ryun, in terms of he has *zero* support from me if he runs again.

Not that it will matter in any significant fashion.

We had 3 riders killed during a Poker Run this weekend- two drivers and one passenger were hit by an 18 yr old kid, going around stopped traffic. I guess he got impatient, and BAM!... killed three people.
So very, very sad.

My fear is that the American "elites" advocating this atrocious immigration reform bill will mirror the efforts of the European "elites" regarding the EU constitutional referendums (referenda?), and will continue to shove this thing down our throats in successive attempts despite overwhelming popular opposition.

Quite frankly, any bill that's being pushed this strongly by Ted Kennedy is a bad thing.

Bush's strong support of this bill, considering the holes it will leave in border security and the political realignment it will most likely lead to, has me seriously doubting - for the first time - his sincerity in fighting the GWOT, protecting the homeland, promoting Conservative values, and preserving GOP viability in future elections.
