Open post for those with something to share, updated through the day. New, complete posts come in below this one. Note: If trackbacking, please acknowledge this post in your post. That's only polite. You're advertising here, we should get an ad at your place... ******************************** Continuing the recent focus around here on the military families: For the families: We don't know what you're feeling, but we're trying to understand. I do anticipate that this one from Fehrenbach may annoy some: Equipment, troops strained for ... what was it? Not even going to attempt to defend it. It’s an either you...

Oh, to be fair: Jerry does point out that Despair is a Sin, and that we should keep trying to do right. I just get awfully disappointed lately.

Hmm. Methinks, if yer President, and you get Peggy Noonan mad at you, and you have half a brain, and a quarter of a conscience, you oughta resign. That would leave us a President with a rather blue complection, to be succeeded by Nancy Pelosi.

Now do you people understand why I drink so much?

P.s. Jerry Pournelle did tell us so, before the crazyness started, warning us about the Neo-Jacobins.

Actually, I read a paper that one of the reasons that planning what to do, post-invasion was so poor is that the upper-upper echelons kept changing the invasion plan itself. Something like 3 or 4 massive changes of direction between Dec 01 and Oct 02, with still more smaller, but still significant, changes after that. 3ID wasn't even given the plan until Dec 02, IIRC.

Kind of hard to plan for what to do after you capture Baghdad if you're constantly having to revise you plan for capturing it in the first place.

An armed society is a polite society. I'd much rather pay for convenience store clerks to have weapons training than pay for bullet proof glass and such.

She's not the only one he's lost. Excluding myself folks who were before strong conservative base and intellectual (like Stephen/Commissar) are more and more throwing their hands up and walking away.

It's actually a somewhat frightening trend in some ways, and reassuring in others.

I'm hoping that we can all pull together as a rational unit when it's all said and done and the canon fire stops, but I don't see it happening anytime in the near future.
