Two news stories, same page. Cameron Diaz... celebrity (who will happily advise us on how to live our lives), rich, glitzy - and admirer of commie chic... While the bags are marketed as trendy fashion accessories in some world capitals, the phrase has particular resonance in Peru, where the Maoist Shining Path insurgency brought Peru to edge of chaos in the 1980s and early 1990s with a campaign of massacres, assassinations and bombings. Elizabeth Cowie. Staff Sergeant, Indiana Army National Guard... EDINBURGH, Ind. - Staff Sgt. Elizabeth Cowie's mission — and dream — of serving in Iraq almost ended before...

Cameron Diaz is such an ogre. 'Every second we lose an area the size of two football fields.'

Weren't the rainforests threatened when Olivia Newton-John was getting physical in the early 80s? Only then it was an acre a week. I had NO IDEA Brazil and South America had that much land.

Outstanding, Sgt Cowie. You somehow know there isn't anything as tough as her. Mind you, I wouldn't exactly refer to her as a "tough old bird" From my elevated years, 42 isn't old.

As for Ms Diaz ... do we Canadians and Americans value our own lives so little that we pay any attention to these benighted souls from Hollywood? We wouldn't unthinkingly accept the pronouncements on world politics from the pretty blonde at the ince cream parlour, would we? Why would we pay attention to an overly made-up drama queen? At least the blonde was all natural.

I have to shake my head.

Regards,
George

Not totally off topic, but I've spent a LOT of time over the past two weeks in Edinburgh, IN. It's a small farming town, with a litle manufacturing, and little other industry- but there are THREE military bases within an hour of Edinburgh. It's nice to drive through AMERICA and see flags, yellow ribbons, and other real signs of support for our troops. Doesn't surprise me a bit that this town would produce such a daughter.

HOOAH

I read about this story in the local newspaper. "Sgt. Cowie, you are one tough old bird. As the saying goes the good die young and you're here forever." Reader, you need to draw your own conclusions.

Respectfully,
Grumpy

                Trias scores!

Now brace yourself for the cr@psquall of indignant trolls demanding you mend your evil, anti-Hispanic ways...

The amazing, if sad, part is how many people pay attention to what ANYONE from that industry has to say.

Tim -- Part of it is the sheeple's amazing penchant for believing, due to the MSM's overcoverage and the sheer number of Stupidity TV shows out there, that they actually *know* those Hollywood dwellers.

Case in point: A few years back, KtLW and I saw Susan Lucci and hubby strolling in an unmentioned-but-semiposh town in upstate NY. The poor lady was being chided by two matronly matrons for cheating (in public) on "Erica Kane"'s current paramour. The LudditeWife, to her eternal credit, interspersed herself and said, "I *love* the work you've done on TV and your wonderful marriage should be an example to the rest of your co-workers!" Whereupon the matronly matrons, somewhat jolted, flipped a mental 180 and politely asked for Ms. Lucci's autograph.

I wonder if she considers using the same clothes more than once recycling.

Or is recycling using a servant someone else has used?

                Shipmates,

Amen to that. Hollywood, though, actually is a fantasy-based culture. The amazing, if sad, part is how many people pay attention to what ANYONE from that industry has to say.
