A moveable Castle.

No, not a tank. That Master and Mistress of Argghhh! have decided they are going to see if they can't capture this place and expand the demesne by several orders of magnitude, to 77.5 acres.

The new home of the Arsenal of Argghhh?

Larger view available here.

If we are successful in this campaign - this would be Firing Point 1 at Castle Argghhh!.

If all goes according to plan - this will be Firing Point 1, Castle Argghhh! Pistol and Zero Range.

This looks down range, towards the hill that will be the backstop, and since the range is angled downhill, that will reduce the chances of "overs".

Range 2, Field Fire.

Goin' down to the Lake. Well, pond, but it ain't a cement pond. It's about 100m x 75m. And stocked, for those who care about such things. Some algae to get rid of.

I don't have pictures of it yet, but there's a Tank Table 8 in the lower (literally) 40.

And a pretty good spot for an Assault Fire range on the upper 20.

Sweeet.

Heh. Perhaps it's more accurate to say the "Rifle Range of Argghhh!," with a comfortable range shack...

But - on to the important thing... what to name this spread? Let's hear your ideas.

Shire of Argghhh! from Nom de guerre: Rivrdog on June 1, 2007 3:27 PM

Quick as a bunny! Get over to Argghhh! and scope out the Armorer's prospective new digs, somewhere on the KS side of the Big Mo (Missouri River). 77 acres with room for MULTIPLE firing ranges, and with a pond. He may not know it, but he is in a major ... Read More

May I suggest something along the lines of FOB or COP Argghhh!?

Is the lake big enough for a submarine? :-D

Sweeeeeeettt... not very imaginative but how about The Desmesne ? Confound the locals with a big sign- Desmesne de Argghhh!

The Garrison of Argghhh? Fort Donovan? Denizen Heaven? BCR - I'm guessing the designation 'Pond' means it is a bit shallow for subs. For now. Once the terra-forming crew is done, of course, that would change ;-)

Depth is currently unknown. Anyone wants to provide labor and capital, we'll run a canal to the River...

Soo which side of the River is the new Chateau de Argghhh on? Looks you will need to invest in livestock to control the grass or all you will do is ride your no longer brand new mower. Seriously there are several crops you should look into. O.K. all kidding aside good luck with the seige and I hope you can buy them off quickly and frugally. Good Luck with the purchase -- it looks like a great piece of land. Will you let you friends shoot there too?

Castle Arrrghovan JohnBeth Estates & firing range

It looks absolutely wonderful, John. Best of luck in procurement!!

Jim, this is on the Kansas side. And of course there will be guest privileges!

A self contained moat. Outstanding. I must mull the name over... Donovan's Desmesne Arty Acres (so the locals don't get nersouv about artillery) The Castle Donovan's Domain

What, did you run out of space for firearms?

Murdoc - well, in fact, yes. And I *never* had a place to shoot 'em that was accessible 24/7. What's not to like?

YAY! You've got yourselves one fine "Clue-Battery" there!!!

I think you need a bigger lawn tractor. Donovan's Freehold?

Well, it may be presumptuous, but if you're looking for an Artillery tribute, how about Falcon?

Actually... since Mom's bequest is enabling this... Battery Meriwether has a ring to it. Or Battery Donovan. But I'll have to give SWWBO some input, too.

The Donovan Home for Wayward Denizens? Could get Tax Break!

Fire Base Donovan has a nice 'Nam ring to it....

Grafenwehr or Hohenfels West

Can the freestanding moat have a Nessie attachment? SWWBO's Schloss. Donovargghhh!

Camp Thistle? One suggestion, don't let guests wear towels on their heads and shout Allah Accckkkkbar while they shoot ... it spooks the horses. Luck with your new personal Tick Farm. Oh yea and require any guests to bring their own Scoresby, or they will break ya.

See? Great minds think alike, John! I love the "battery" idea, but I still like "Clue Battery" the bestest! You could go "all Mom, all the time" and go with Daffodil Fields, or maybe Meriwether Range.

Looks like a nice lill spot

Some offline suggestions included naming particular places for denizens... Such as.. "Maggie's Hump" or "Brab's Vista" or "Ry's Rest" (at the outdoor privy, of course), "Fuzzybear's Lair" "BCR Docks and Submarine Pen" "Rotorhead's Roost" etc...

Some offline suggestions included naming particular places for denizens... I like it!

I dunno. If you have a more open environment in the armory, due to having more space, it might be more difficult for me to sneak in there, and hide under the workbench, and take things apart. Of course, if Werekitten and Maggy and such of their ilk weren't there, maybe I wouldn't feel such a need to hide out.

Ok, to be serious. When I worked for Bartlett Tree Service in Atlanta back in the late 70s, the foreman was an amazing little guy who carried the whole operation on his virtual back. He taught me how to fell trees, and run the log chipper. (Michael Z. Williamson, are you reading this?) Anyway, he said that when and where he was a kid, it was a very ordinary thing to shoot high-power rifles off the back porch of his house, with perfect safety for everybody.

We are not pleased to have the word "hump" connected with us. We have no hump. Testamonials can be furnished. Quasimodo had a hump.

lol I saw that 4 letter H word thrown in there.

You *know* if there is a nice, straight, free-standing tree somewhere, that will be Werekitty's Pole...

Since I'm just one of the wife's COTILLION buddies, my vote for a name won't count as much , I'm sure>> but I vote: "The Range" Because though I own a "named" place, we never call it anything but "The Cabin" or "The River" and "The Range" is descriptive in so many ways. The double meaning of "home on the range" and "shooting range" is kinda fun. HAPPY HOUSE WARMING!

krak de arrggh And it's "Donovan's Demesne" The 4D (Donovan's Domain for Delinquent Denizens and the back "40") The pond: Loch Arty Out Post Arrggh FOB Merriweather Out Post/FOB IBM (I bayoneted myself) Hamburger Hill (in rememberence as well as the grilling of hamburgers most likely to be seen) Donovan's Downunder Does it have a study? You know, we philosopher type people need a studious, musty place full of tomes from other great thinkers in order to create our master piece(s). If not, just turn CNN on in the dungeon and I'll go down and poke at Ry once in awhile until something strikes my fancy (irks me wildly) or the constant drip of water on the keyboard drives him crazy(er).

*sigh* My own pole... straight and thick... Oh, JTG? Maggie and I don't have "ilk". We have other ASSets, but "ilk" isn't one of them. Just sayin'

If John and Beth get sheep to graze the acreage, that will be some excellent lambchoppage, along with poults to control the insects and mebbe a bovine or two for fresh meat. And fleeces are so fun to spin. However, practical considerations have to be conceded in that the Master and Mistress may not want to take on more critters because of the care factors involved. Hence riding lawn mowers.

Wow! Cool digs. Good luck on securing the estate!

JTG - If my presence causes such distress..........I'll stay away.

Maggie - Don't take it personally. JTG just likes to disassemble things in the background while Castle Comment Parties are hopping and swinging. It's normal. For him. I think Brab's Vista would be a fine name for the view off the back deck. :-)

Hrumph! I say to the woman with a turret on her head, and others. I may be more outlyingly weird than some of you folks, but there has always been plenty of neural divergence going on at the Castle, conducted and wallowed in by all concerned.

P.s. "conducted" means "helped along" in English. The Real World seems more gloomy, lately, to me, so I think we should act against that by being more light-hearted and silly in our interactions here.

Brab - I like the double-entendre in it, mostly.

John - me, too. Tickles my fancy :-)

I see that a terrific space is there for an outdoor type kitchen to feed the PoleKats, Chandelier Swingers and the Firing Line. There is also a roof for Bill to attempt to fly his Chuteless Bra and a place to land Hubert. Speaking of Commander SB, where is he these days?

A little more headroom under the workbench would be nice. Maybe I could attempt a twonky.
