*Someone* decided I needed a military-style morale booster after yesterday's post...
You know you're in trouble when the CO says, "Donovan, get in here!"
Likewise, I know I'm in trouble when the email subject line is: "Beth, DO NOT read this email..."
Uh-oh.
It then continues...
Armorer,Cheer UP, a$$hole! We aren't going to lose and we aren't going to turn into buggering Macedonians.
Love,
Dusty
P.S. Try this for a laugh...it's how American newspapers should REALLY report the news. (H/T: Lileks)
Heh. Of course, CAPT H *did* send me news that uplifts me.
Sackings.
No, I'm not uplifted that the Sea Services are having a public run of bad press here.
I'm uplifted to know that there are commanding officers in the Navy who will *fire* commanding officers. No, I don't want witch hunts. But, assuming it's done for the right reasons and with cause, senior people who screw the canine should get canned from positions of responsibility - not just suffered and then shifted off elsewhere. While overdone, it can create a climate of fear and safe-siding, properly done, it actually does odd things like enforces standards. It looks like most of the reliefs in question were probably behavior issues, not basic competency issues, though people with an ear inside the Navy may have a better understanding of the circumstances than a non-sailor can glean from this report.
The Navy’s recent troubled waters got even more turbulent May 11-16 as news got out of a destroyer grounding, a frigate apparently going dead in the water and a sub skipper being fired. The commanding-officer sacking was the fifth in as many weeks. What’s more, the Coast Guard “temporarily reassigned” the CO of a 270-foot cutter after he was arrested on charges of assaulting a bartender in Key West, Fla.
I do want to know more about that assault. And I'm waiting to hear about some more sackings in the Coast Guard (and the contractor) over the Deep Water program.
Anyway, with Dusty having put me on notice, the floggings will cease when morale improves!
