The mayor, and his staff, must decide if they are going to appeal to the Supreme Court. The problem for them is that it would appear that the current SCOTUS is more likely than not to uphold the lower courts. That would mean that not only would the DC law be struck down, but that similiar laws in other jurisdictions, where the courts are devided on this question, would also be struck down. So, despite all their posturing, it would seem that there is a high probability that the DC government will decide to allow the ruling to stand, and then attempt to do an end run on the courts by passing a new, and highly restrictive set of regulations that make it all but impossible for honest citizens to have weapons.
