Speaking of giving people things, we got a message from one of our troop commanders yesterday about the importance of our care packages and I wanted to share:

"Hello and good evening, I just wanted to drop a line to say thank you for all that you have done. My soldiers of the[redacted] Stryker Brigade are very appreciative of all that you all have done for us. On the night that our FOB,was attacked by 17+ mortars, one hit our ammo storage and gave us a fireworks of our own ammo that my soldiers would never forget. It even made the news. When the dust cleared we had been humbled. We were, (due to un-exploded ordnance) stuck in our barracks. The dining facility was all but destroyed, as well as the gym, laundry facility and MWR. We also had no bath water. We could not leave the barracks. If it wasn't for the, "Soldiers' Angels" and all the packages they sent to us, we would have starved the first few days. Thank you for being there when it truly counted. I just wanted to tell you all that."

Be there when it counts! Soldiers' Angels

*A term of art from the artillery. Harassment and Interdiction Fires.

Back in the day, when you could just kill people and break things without a note from a lawyer, they were pre-planned, but to the enemy, random, fires at known gathering points, road junctions, Main Supply Routes, assembly areas, etc - to keep the bad guy nervous that the world around him might start exploding at any minute.

*Not really relevant to today's operating environment, right? But, it *is*

The UAVs (oops, can't call 'em UAVs anymore - they're now Unmanned Aerial Systems... some Colonel got his Legion of Merit for that change...), er, um UAS's we fly over Afghanistan and Pakistan looking for targets of opportunity are a form of H&I fires, if you really want to parse it finely. We just have better sensors and fire control now.

I call the post that because it's random things posted by me and people I've given posting privileges to. It's also an open trackback, so if someone has a post they're proud of, but it really isn't either Castle kind of stuff, or topical to a particular post, I've basically given blanket permission to use that post for that purpose. Another term of art that might be appropriate is "Free Fire Zone".

Hey cool! Thanks for the linkage! :)

So, if we want the layout to be changed, we just have to call you a baby killer and tell you that the layout stinks? ;) Not sure I like this green color.

OOps. And I called you "killer" twice.

I'm experimenting. It wasn't green on the monitor at home, though it is on the laptop, certainly. Ditching the camo tiles should speed load times for dialup users, as well as reduce the stress on my server. But thank you for the feedback. And the reinforced feedback...

You know, not this one either. Maybe black or red or something dark. You know, red might be good for a redleg. Or dark green kind of gives a tan and dark green hunter look.

2 things. 1. I agree with Kat, make the background Artillery Red. 2. The story about the Bots on the ground got me some strange looks at work when I laughed during the story. I can see myself doing exactly what the grunts do with their bots.

*sigh* If the background is red, you need to go to a grey and white or something clean for the panels, with maybe a bit of blue or gold for an accent but you have to be careful. And I'd go with a darker red - more like crimson. It's classier and easier on the eyeballs. Men and color :p

Feh. I give up. My stuff keeps getting blown away. I'll just put it in it's own post.

Hey, I'm just playing around here - and Kat *is* a gurl, y'know!

That's me. a *gurl*. And the person that will now go reside in the dungeon with ry and steal all his cheetos because I am obviously killing everyone's posts today. Actually, I just thought no one else was posting and decided someone needed to keep the H&I's alive for all those new traffic folks who were sent here from the weekly standard and such. On the Bots on the Ground, at least twice I had to look at the header to make sure it was a legitimate report because some of it seemed so hokey. LOL

I don't know. I'm kind of liking the red. If you really had to have it color coordinated, I suppose a darker red would be okay, but I don't know if you would have to change the inlaid stuff. Actually, I'm kind of liking the tan and red. Maybe the coloumn/section headings would be okay as red, too? Then it would be like desert redlegs.

We robots are very lovable, it is true.

I *know* Kat is a grrrl. Sheesh. It was red when I came over here, so I was commenting on that, not on her comment or her grrrl-ness. The black is OK with the tan but I'd like a less pink-y tan. More like the color over at Jules' place. And yes. I'm picky. Pppppphhhhhhttt.

I refuse to say anything about the changing colors ... even that yucky tomato soup one.

Uh-oh - Cass's winding up to start throwing trivets. Hmmm - the brown color makes me think of ... Chocolate!

Gang, Either black or red. Both look excellent with the earth tones used for everything else. The red looks very good colour-wise, especially with the khaki/coffee combo. However, the black focuses the reader onto the text columns, rather than dancing in the background like the cammo pattern did, or the red somewhat does. Respects,

and now, a word from your web-tester ... In Firefox, the text runs right up to the left and right edges of the tan area and with the black background (which I like)the edges of the letters get swallowed up visually. Request a few pixels of gutter in the center, plz.

Ditto BCR's comment.
