Armed Forces Day 2007

Quick! Grab a warrior and hug 'em! Find an Armed Forces Day event near you. Heh. Apparently the DefenseLink people (there are no listed events for Kansas) don't get the same press releases I get. So, if you're a Kansan (or a border ruffian in Missouri, Oklahoma and Nebraska) and want to show a little love - this is what's happening in Topeka... HOT RODS AND HUMVEES THIS SATURDAY AT HEARTLAND PARK TOPEKA AS TRACK HOSTS ARMED FORCES DAY CELEBRATION TOPEKA, Kan. (May 15, 2007) - A full day of military and civilian defense displays, hot rods, band performances,...

Today I had the honor of participating in the local parade, and I was just ahead of a group of redlegs from Ft Drum. They had towed arty and I was in an M-1026. The kids loved the parade and we had nothing but support from the crowds that lined both sides of the 4 mile parade route.

Being outside of Ft Drum, we had quite a few people showing support for the missing 3 soldiers of 4-31 inf and the division in general.

Do you imagine I need encouragement in this area?

If the correct action is to assault (grab and hug) a member of the military, then every day is "Armed Forces Day" for the SugarButtons Brigade.

I don't see any events listed on the DoD site for Washington, either. I plan on taking part in a local rally with the Operation Support Our Troops gang here in Issaqauh. Unfortunately it is cool and damp - surprise! heh.

Happy Armed Forces Day to all military and vets!
