It's Saturday, no one is going to read this anyway... H.R. 808: Department of Peace and Nonviolence Act Mr. Kucinich, et.al., have proposed the above. Hey - it was a part of his platform when he ran for President, give him marks for consistency. Here are his co-sponsors, just for the record. I see many of the usual suspects : Mr. KUCINICH (for himself, Mr. ABERCROMBIE, Mr. ANDREWS, Ms. BALDWIN, Ms. CORRINE BROWN of Florida, Ms. CARSON, Mr. CLAY, Mr. CONYERS, Mr. CUMMINGS, Mr. DAVIS of Illinois, Mrs. DAVIS of California, Mr. DEFAZIO, Mr. ELLISON, Mr. FARR, Mr. FILNER, Mr....

I hope we can avoid enacting this foolishness, but as TH notes, the bill enjoys broad support in the Democratic House. As a consolation prize, then, I hope we can see it enacted quickly, so that George W. Bush can exercise his recess appointment powers once more.

I can hear him now.

"Ladies and gentlemen, please join me in welcoming America's first Secretary of Nonviolence and Peace: Mr. Donald Rumsfeld."

LOL! Yes!

Ry, if Kucinich would fund the other departments, and we installed a President and Secretaries to demonstrate the leadership, the government would expand and you could get your civil service job.

I'm not being mean, at least not to entry and mid-level CS types. I just don't wanna create another Secretariat...

Besides, you can't apply for any CS jobs in DC until your supervisor finishes her degree.

Oh come on, John. THink of all the idiots(like me!) that could now work for the gov't! You're just trying to freeze us out, you mean mean man. THnk of all the people that could now have healthcare, join the gov't unions, and all the other benefits that come from being a gov't employee? Tsk. You've just not gotten in touch with your feminine-caretaker side.(flees)

Snerk. Well, certainly if Mr. Kucinich gets his wish and there's a Department of Peace, then there will have to be a Department of War.

Ah, the vapors.

Frankly, I think that we should cause the leftists a collective heart attack and propose a bill to have the DOD given its original name back.

As it's said: You can't make this stuff up.

PRIME veto material, assuming (a) the bill gets through the senate (doubtful) and (b) Dubya hasn't lost that veto pen/stamp/whatever...

One is left wondering... "don't these people have anything better to do?"

A cabinet level position that would in part deal with violence against animals.

For pity's sake!
