Time for a Denizen link-fest, methinks.

SWWBO, who was born in St Louis and grew up there, spent the week there for training. While she accomplished her objective of certification, she laments the loss of a landmark of her youth.

Damian, the Babbling Brooks at The Torch, had a chance to meet and listen to a presentation by General Rick Hillier, who was the inaugural guest of hono(u)r at the first annual Reverend John Weir Foote, VC, CD Memorial Luncheon. This Wednesday, the Armorer will have dinner with, and listen to a lecture by General (R) Myers, past Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, as he drops into the region to deliver the 2007 Dole Lecture.

Princess Crabby, who's had her 20,000th visit, notes that it's tough to be President, and you're known by who agrees with you, and who disagrees with you. True enough. And congrats on the traffic milestone!

Fuzzybear Lioness, the music-teacher-currently-sans-students, honors a musician, Mstislav Rostropovich , and then honors a warrior, LCDR Kevin “Kojak” Davis, the Blue Angels pilot who died in a crash last week at the Beaufort Air Show. She's also suffered a small maintenance problem. A really ironic one, considering she's the heart and soul of Project Valour-IT.

Castle Adjutant Barb is off vacationing, and left her laptop behind - but before she left, she reported out on a free speech victory in Washington State.

AFSis regales us with a tale of her skill at T-ball. I didn't know it was *possible* to strike out in T-Ball. Apparently it is. She also notes one of the *real* downsides to excessive moral relativity. And has appropriate wishes for one sick b@st@rd.

Bad Cat Robot notes a prominent scientist having fun in a way you wouldn't expect, given who it is, and renders a short soliloquy on Defensive Thinking.

Finally, the Grand Poobah of Disgruntlement comes out of hiding! 'Bout time, slug. I see the LODM store has opened, too.

The Half Vast Editorial Staff at Villainous Company swings her shell-pink toes out of bed and trudges down the hall for a strong pot of coffee. We benefit.

Alan Celebrates Canada! Well, sorta. Well, not really. Not like you're thinking anyway.

Sergeant B reports out on his sluggardly blogging. He has a good excuse.

Murray has a very poignant, yet very private, memorial. Well done, Murray.

Apropos of nothing, the Castle is having it's highest-ever traffic month. 105,000 and counting. We should tick over 2,000,000 early next month. Thank you for taking the time to stop by - even more if you stopped by to chat! -the Armorer

This afternoon, at 4PM, at the Smokehouse Barbecue in Zona Rosa shopping center in KC, there will be an impromptu mini-Castle Blogmeet, with Bloodspite, Kat, SWWBO, and the Armorer in attendance. If you can pick us out in the crowd, and are willing to be seen with us, we can probably make 'em give us a bigger table. -the Armorer

********************************

As mentioned yesteday, Kat and Bloodspite went and welcomed the 24th Marines home. Bloodspite has his pics up, and I'm sure Kat will link in with her stuff later. -the Armorer

Heh. Who dislikes the French more than Americans do? The French. Could this be why? -the Armorer

********************************

And, here I am. Welcome Home 24th Marine: 46 in, 46 out

All I have to say is, "Wow!" The best welcome home party I've every been to. I was able to talk to many people, both current and former marines as well as some fantastic support groups and families.

Update! Video and link to Patriot Guard Riders mission report and pictures now up!

*A term of art from the artillery. Harassment and Interdiction Fires.

Back in the day, when you could just kill people and break things without a note from a lawyer, they were pre-planned, but to the enemy, random, fires at known gathering points, road junctions, Main Supply Routes, assembly areas, etc - to keep the bad guy nervous that the world around him might start exploding at any minute.

*Not really relevant to today's operating environment, right? But, it *is*

The UAVs (oops, can't call 'em UAVs anymore - they're now Unmanned Aerial Systems... some Colonel got his Legion of Merit for that change...), er, um UAS's we fly over Afghanistan and Pakistan looking for targets of opportunity are a form of H&I fires, if you really want to parse it finely. We just have better sensors and fire control now.

I call the post that because it's random things posted by me and people I've given posting privileges to. It's also an open trackback, so if (Don Surber uses it this way a lot) someone has a post they're proud of, but it really isn't either Castle kind of stuff, or topical to a particular post, I've basically given blanket permission to use that post for that purpose. Another term of art that might be appropriate is "Free Fire Zone".

Canada seems to be a country that can only get by on the telling of lies to ourselves.

Looking forward to it! Thanks for the link btw! And kdwill of Techography will also be present. So you get half of our staff for the price of one :)

Will Gen. Meyers (R) have the nerve to wear the beautiful purple and silver amidst an ugly sea of blue and red.

Good question, Tim. I'll report out. If I get a chance, I'll ask him how it feels to tread on hostile ground.

Apropos of nothing, the Castle is having it's highest-ever traffic month. 105,000 and counting. Congrats, John. And thanks for linking my way while you're having your banner month: The Torch is coincidentally having its best month too, at 21,000 unique visits with one day left on the calendar.

You weren't meeting at the mall with the shooting, I take it.. sheesh. Thanks for the linky-love, John! And yes, it is entirely possible to strike out in t-ball. Again, and again, and again.... *groan* (btw... my "baby", Thomas, was the starting pitcher in today's season opening game- and struck out the first batter. YAY! It's official- he's escaped his mother's baseball gene!)

Nope, AFSis, the semi-official pick-up Castle blog-meet was held in Zona Rosa, on the northern fringe of the city out near the airport. Ward Parkway Mall is in the south-central part of Kansas City.
