We're talking silencing the Ernie Pyle of this war, not the William Arkin's... Soldier's Mom noted Mike's new product... RUBS It looks like a certain Army General wants to shoot himself and the Army in the foot. Both feet. What a lack of vision this man seemingly has. A note from Bob Owens, who blogs at Confederate Yankee - where you can find a picture of the General in question, Brigadier General Vincent Brooks. Good Morning, I'm writing to you today to ask you to help support Michael Yon, the former Green Beret turned independent combat journalist, currently in Iraq....

God save us from staff weenies like this one-star.

Assuming Yon is in the right, dragging said general's actions out in the light is a good move. Guys like that thrive on back-room payback and are masters at leveraging their power over others in Machiavellian ways. Publicly exposing this move for the cynical, manipulative, political gutpunch that it is should be sufficient to make the general back down.

But he won't forget... these types never do. Yon will need to watch his back from this point on; to these guys, public humiliation and questioning of their authority are unforgiveable sins.

As smart as General Petreaus is, and given what I'm told of his knowledge of how to fight this kind of war, I foresee a certain two-star getting an ass-ripping from the CG.

If I were Petreaus (and assuming he has the authority), I'd fire the a$$hole. How the hell does someone become a flag officer, let alone one in such an important position, with such a fundamental lack of understanding of the big picture?

                Publish. Push the story.

That's all we can do.
