Continuing with the continuation of the continuation. Everybody's kinda stuck in the beets-chianti-beets cycle, although BCR's got the range.

Not everything that tries to kill you in a war zone is chemically-propelled. Imagine spending a dehydrated, sleep-deprivated but excessively-motivated (to remain reasonably intact for the next five seconds -- and the next -- and the next...) year in a place where the daily temperature is 120º+F in the shade (and there's no shade unless you stand in your own shadow) and malaria, pulmonary tuberculosis, lymphatic filariasis, leprosy, cholera, Japanese encephalitis, typhoid fever, trachoma, Giardiasis, diphtheria, Yellow fever, amoebic and bacillary dysentery, hepatitis A, B and E, dengue fever, meningitis, rabies, bubonic plague, smallpox and fungal infections that medical science has taken a glance at and scampered gibbering into the nearest boric acid bath are as common as flat in Kansas.

BillT; My first hard drive was a 5MB Profile connected to an Apple///. Roughly 2.5-3x the size of a Mini. It was $3499 when it was announced; good thing the company paid for it.

Heh... Well my attendance is spotty this week, since I'm doing this post-hike after a day of walking around DC, but I have to ask, 'as long as one of Sanger's rants'? Are my tirades that short? Sheesh, I must be slipping and will need to up my output now that I have an extra 27 hours a day to do whatever I want instead of what I have to do... Oh, and BillT: BotR, plus BoFR, PLUS some M.A.S.H. PLUS some Shogun (read that in one weekend), PLUS some TINS stories from old aviators all sort of melted together into something not suitable for any decent mind to ponder...:-) BTW, I always thought Gimlet and Legolam were two of the funniest names going, Although Frito and Spam were a close second. Ha! Immmmmmm baaaaaack.... Well, almost.

My first hard drive was a 20 meg external, it really was bigger than a Mac mini. I wish I still had that thing, today's kids would never believe that it was that big to hold so little. Now you have flash memory cards that hold gigabytes of data that are smaller than a book of matches.

Have you seen a Mac mini? My first hard drive was bigger than that thing. You must've had the 40meg drive, then -- my 20 meg was the same size...

Wish I'd gotten in on this from the first. Unfortunately I'm currently in the midst of enemy action. We lost a third of the editorial department space to sales so they can talk with clients in a more comfortable space, they're building a wall so that our rude, crude and socially unacceptable chit-chat won't bother those clients, our phone system decided to start making bizzare sounds for no apparent reason, the email is doing weird things (yesterday I got a mailer daemon message that said a message I sent Tuesday of last week bounced) and they are 'updating' our computers. Said update means I'll soon be using a Mac mini. Have you seen a Mac mini? My first hard drive was bigger than that thing. NevadaDailySteve, currently hunkered down in Outpost RRRRR! of the castle.

Ummmm -- it was a *female* sorcerer (the word thay is gender-independent). And she said that, in addition to banishing headache demons, the procedure also had an intriguing side effect on the feminine libido (okay -- I paraphrased her wording, in deference to The Rulez). I was going to conduct an emperical investigation on the phenomenon when I went on R&R, but the luvverly lydies I met in Sydney-town never got one. single. headache.

Hi, J.! - T'weren't so much a lack of an EPA but the overabundance of VC blowing up wells and water filtration plants, assassinating medical personnel, telling villagers that immunization shots would poison them -- then killing any village chief who allowed medical teams to visit -- and the prevailing belief that the ong long bac si (Chinese herbalists) and sorcerers could cure what ailed ya. Sorcerers were a pretty interesting bunch -- most of them were herbalist-accupressurists. One of 'em taught me how to give a hand massage that would chase headache demons...
