Ledger - There are 2 answers to that question:
1. (Least Likely) They were acquired during the Iran-Iraq war through the CIA.
2. (Most Likely) They were reversed engineered knock-offs. Iraq did a lot of that with everything from US MK-84s to South African 155mm artillery rounds. I would like to see a picture of the bomb in question. The knock-offs don't have internal plumbing for electrical fusing. In the GP aerial bomb category; all of the ones I saw were:
1. Locally produced knock-offs
2. Eastern block
3. Shipped through a 3rd party e.g. Jordan
All of the ones I saw that were identified as MK-82, 83, 84 were knock-offs lacking internal plumbing.

Coalition Forces also found or captured many weapons caches to include two aircraft bombs, one 500-lb MK-82 bomb, 50 155mm artillery shells, one complete 82mm mortar system with over 100 rounds... -Centcom

How did an American bomb fall into the enemy’s hands? A dud? A bomb stolen from coalition ammo stores? Got any guesses? Can it be used for a bobby trap?
