Snow-eating Grin...

Look at the Lawn Tractor of Argghhh! Sure, he's not tracked. And he got stuck once - but self-recovered, Murray - and 4 inches of really wet snow is about all he can handle - but is that not a snow-eating grin? Happy to be an all-season tractor, and not just sit silent and morose in the Shed of Argghhh! during the winter. This is the vista that greeted us this morning. Before and After. And this is what it looked like before we tidied up the little bits. We'll have to do it again later today, no doubt....

We'll have to do it again later today, no doubt. Advantage of living on a snow route - your street gets cleared. Disadvantage, the city keeps dumping snow on your sidewalk and telling you that you are required to clear it off your sidewalk. And then they come back and... dump snow on your sidewalk. We're better off than our flanking neighbors. The snowplows took out their mailboxes last night. One reason we have the kind of mailbox we now have is because the city, and idiots with over-large mirrors kept taking it out.

The ice storm last week took out a lot of power. Around here, the local power company has been aggressively exercising it's tree-slaying easement to remove threats to the powerlines. The Inner Bailey suffered from their depredations this year - but if you were home, you could force 'em to trim. If you weren't home, you came home to a pile of neatly stacked firewood and no tree.

Anyway, we don't worry about that overmuch in cold weather here at Castle Argghhh! Here's a shot of SWWBO yesterday with 9/11ths of the reason why we don't worry about it over much, at least from a warmth perspective.

I have to comment on your pic with your pets.
My husband and I had a kick out of it since my family always tell us that they don't think there is anybody else with as many critters as us.
We have 6 cats and 2 dogs, inside and 7 cats outside that we feed and take care, because they don't have a home.
I'll make a copy of your pic and send it to my relatives in California ( we live on the island of Guam, USA Territory)

Trias - the snow is clean. Until you scrape up the layer that was on the roadway - where it picks up all the road dirt.

It's really very pretty - until the final, slushy end of the melt.

I never use very ignorant answers getting rises and bull under your intellectual tankership.

Suing automatically boils my blood. Land of the Free until some arse trips over within 50 km of you. Then suddenly it's very very expensive.

Anyway snow is an enigma to me. I was disappointed to see it look so dirty. I think i'll stay in the land of the boiling hot.

Haven't had to use the snow-muncher this season at all -- which is kind of nice, because I usually wind up shredding Ed the Neighbor's paper. His delivery-lad suffers from snow-induced lysdexia and invariably lofts the fishwrapper one drive short of his actual target.

Heh. Couple years ago, KtLW piled Jake, Scout and Muffy on the bed during a power outage and discovered there wasn't quite room enough for her, too. Wound up sleeping halfway under Scout, who's a b-i-i-i-g gurl, praying she wouldn't roll over during the night. Me? I was hauling doctors and nurses from their domiciles to the local hospitals in a CUCV with a bad heater...

We had about 5" here in the North end of KC. I've got my ever-reliable Toro PowerCurve 1800 - an electric snow blower - 18" width.

Why electric? Because we only need to use it 2 - 3 times a year. Didn't need it at all last year. Electrons don't go bad sitting in the tank that long. What if the power's out? That's what the generator is for (among other things). Snow was damp enough I had to use it with a small amount of care, mostly off the end of the driveway where there was a thicker pile from the plow.

Oh, and where was the Kitt'n Kaboodle while I was outside, slaving away?

Snoring, on the bed, on top of the freshly washed, brand new, thirsty towels.... Well, at least they made a pretty good towel warmer for when I got out of the shower.

My nice, brand new, bright, shiny snowblower... SUCKS MAJOR BEE-HIND.

I went out to fire it up, only to find out that one tire was flat. It's BRAND NEW. URG.... I have no way of inflating it today, so a-shovelin' and a-cursin' I went.
I am *SO* not happy about this.

Dale - the blade was cheap, the tractor has no provision for a PTO forward, so it would have to be a self-powered snow blower.

This works well enough. We rarely get enough snow for it to be a problem - and the solution for more snow would simply be to set the feet a little lower on the first pass and make two passes.

        Bloodspite... that's a Sno-Mater if I've ever seen one!
We got about the same amount of snow you did, John. I think my little machine will do just fine. Actually, I'm thinkin' it'll make enough blow that even Al Pacino would be proud enough to call me his "Lil' Frien". So... SAY 'ELLO.

SWWBO.. I'm surprised y'all don't save a heap on heating bills with all of those furry blankets on top of ya!

Why don't you use a snow blower attachment instead of a plow? Yeah, blowers can clog in the wet heavy stuff but a big two stage seldom clogs if you keep moving.

I sympathize with the city plow problem. My boulevard is only a foot wide and the city pretty much fills my sidewalk every time they come through. They are very good at timing their run just after I go to work so that by the time I get home the snow that they dumped on the sidewalk is nearly solid ice/snow.

Not much snow here, thankfully. More ice, which with freezing temperatures and previous ice melting, was to be expected.

I was more prepared this year in the snow regard. About 4 months ago I picked up this little jewel at a local auction, complete with plow. Took some work for me to patch it up, needed a new hydraulic arm among other things, but it shooooore is nahiiiice!

I wanted to name it Mater, after the "Cars" character; My wife however has named it "BC"...as in..Baby Crap Yellow, the color she swears it is.

No action shots...yet :)
