I'm sure the retail outlet emailer felt s/he was scoring major points and making a HUGE statement. Or not, just being, an ass. As if the good Sergeant has the choice - and as if the little protestor *truly* wants we military types to pick and choose where we go and when. Sigh. They never think *that one* through.

This is disgusting & pathetic. This business owner is a disgrace.

Sgt. Hess, who is from the 1st Cavalry Division stationed in Iraq, emailed a company called discount-mats.com, an online retailer in West Allis, Wisconsin to inquire about ordering some mats but wanted to verify that they would ship to a APO.

Well, you wouldn’t believe the disgusting reply he received back from the company:

It's hard to boycott people you don't use, but you can certainly send them a nice, polite email telling them how thick-headed their employee is, and how shallow their thinking.

Do have fun. But be polite. Remember the Rulez. You're also far more likely to get read (unlike a blog, where you're more likely to get read if your rude... go figure) if you're polite and reasonable.

Heh. I tried to check out their site and it says they're "Having technical difficulties." I'm thinking there are WHOLE LOT of people out there who are also looking at their website... and not because they'd like to purchase.

LOL, I saaw that too. I checked the story at Snopes and they have raised the possibility that it's from a rogue employee. http://www.snopes.com/politics/war/apo.asp Not that it absolves the company from responsibility, but it needs to be considered. Also Snopes mentioned that Sgt. Hess has been flooded with offers of mats.

Polipundit's source, a blog called "Euphoric Reality," is now saying that the domain owner for www.discount-mats.com is an Arabic-sounding name: "Faisal Khetani." I ran my own check with whois.net, and verified that that name does indeed come up in response to a whois query for that domain. PLEASE NOTE: It's entirely possible to game whois.net, so there is no guarantee that this information is accurate.

get this, the mat company is owned by a MUSLIM the Web-based company is registered to Faisal Khetani, an American Muslim of Pakistani descent" Go figure they are here in this great country making tons of US dollars and they have the gall to piss on our service men. They should throw this bastard out of this country and let him go sell his mats back in pakistan. discount mats---- there is no other way to say this! You make me sick. If I was located in your area I would do anything in my power to destroy your business. As a dealer myself I would undercut your prices at any cost and be happy to lose money doing it! Hopefully, some of your competitors will do just this. Your lack of respect for the men and women who protect this great country is disgusting. Good luck in the mat business. You will need it

I am a Vietnam vet and I remember the bad old days when my 19-year-old wife was asked to leave her church and the tires on her VW were slashed because her husband was serving in Vietnam. I had hoped it would not get that bad again. Unfortunately, it is getting that bad, fortunately this time we have the technology and the people to support the troops and let companies like Bargain Suppliers/Discount Mats know how we feel. I will send them a letter. I will also send one to my Teamster Brothers and Sisters in West Allis Illinois, to deliver my message personally.
