Transformation, Agility... and gun pr0n!

This is a kewl picture.

Heh. Something old (the rifle and the crossed stick antenna segments rest (harkens back to buffalo hunters), something new - the furniture for the rifle... and the advent of "Transformation" and "Agility" in the service.

Cold Warriors - take a look at that caption... a National Guard soldier, acting as Infantry, who is a member of the 2nd Battalion, 300th Field Artillery, which has duty as the Wyoming National Guard Police Training Team.

How many of us, when we took the oath, would have expected to find ourselves in a situation like that?
The times they are a'changin'. And thank heaven's we've got the quality of troop to make it happen!

OK, I'll guess; whatever they're calling the M14/M21/M25 these days (it doesn't seem to have a shortened barrel like a SOCOM), with the Sage EBR stock & handguards. http://www.fulton-armory.com/MAParts.htm#FA-M4-500-EBR Ahh. Actually those look like purpose made 'Shooting Stix' - look around at Cabela's http://www.cabelas.com for those of you who aren't close enough to drive over.

I looked, I didn't see anything that quite matched. Based on the exposed copper, color of the sticks, and what looks to me like parachute cord wrappings - I still think field-expedient. All the "shooting stix" I saw at Cabela's were cammied.

John's got it. The hi-res clearly shows the connector tips. And if he was using my personal fave, the M1D, he'd need a couple of two-by-twos as shooting sticks...

Sigh, the Arsenal had an M1D, once. Sad sad story involving an ex-wife and her creative, before-we-got-married tax habits that caused me to have a *huge* tax bill the year we got married. Cost me the Arsenal's Johnson rifle, too. *sniff* Wimmin. Feh!

Great photo! Even more proud that he's from Wyoming! Having just moved back home to Wyoming, I'm proud to say that our National Guard's Camp a couple hours north of Cheyenne is a great training spot for guys like him. thin mountain air, LOTS and LOTS of wind, dirt blowing around ('cause of the wind), and temperature changes make for a great training area. Been much in demand for the last few years. GO WYO!!! Nina

Camp Guernsey. Great food at Crazy Tony's, too. And Fort Laramie for some history. And the Oregon Trail wagon ruts. And the 19th century graffiti at Register Cliffs... When I used to go up there to evaluate 35th DIVARTY AT sessions, I also left flowers at Immigrant's Grave. IIRC, the little girl buried there was 12 when she died on the trail. Oh! Can't forget the Swiss Vetterli rifles imbedded in the stela on the main street to commemorate the days of the wild west...

After checking the Hi-res version I agree with you. Of course, I'm still correct - he did make those on purpose. ;) Being from Wyoming I'm sure he's had ample opportunity to use the same sort of set up during hunting season. I've seen several plain black sets of supports here at the local Cabela's. Much sympathy for any gun lost to the evils of economics.

You know, I think 2-300 FA was one of the units we trained in convoy ops earlier this year. Anyone else notice that, while he's shooting an M14, it looks like his ammo pouches are holding M16/M4 mags?

Isn't 7.62 a little small for the Field ARtillery? Shouldn't he have something on the order of 45-70 Govt or .700 nitro express? :-D

I thought Neffi had unanswerably closed the thread with that remark of his. Seeing that some others commented nonetheless, I'll do so as well. I always wanted one of those, just so's I could say, "Hey, babe, come over to my place, and I'll show you my Johnson!" Don't have one, either. I don't even have any kind of .219 Improved Zipper. Let alone a 27" Zipper.

Note the juxtaposition: Artillery ... ACTING as Infantry. "So, that's a target ... no target area? Like I'm supposed to hit it?" Cheers
