Somebody else didn't get the memo... remember this little bit of cargo the AF took to Afstan? The Dutch SP howitzer? Looks like someone else didn't get the memo on "We don't need no steenking heavy tracked vehicles to fight in the 'Stan!" that Rummy and crowd put out. Those contrarian Canuckistanians! One can't help but wonder that if we'd gone in with the 1st CAV and 4th ID, if they'd be going in with nothing but the PPCLI... ;^) 'Spirit of McChord' gives Canadians a lift by Master Sgt. If the Stryker Brigade had been ready on schedule (4Q FY 01, IIRC) does anyone doubt that they would have been airlifted into A-stan? (If only because the Army would have wanted to prove the concept on it's new toys). As it was, they ended up lifting in the Marines old LAV-25s.

Armor, both heavy and light, can be useful in the mountains, as long as you're not depedant on it, and you remember it's role is to support the Infantry.

If they'd only been a year behind schedule, they would have been lifted into northern Iraq to follow the SETAF boys, and there wouldn't have been all that mucking around with Turkey and the 4ID.
