Via email. Subject: A note from a Marine friend Here is a recent note from the son of a Marine friend. (Hard to believe that he got that old!!) Like father, like son. He is on his 3rd pump to Iraq but still has a little humor left. One more trip and we won't need to worry about humor. [Opsec deletion] While he may be surprised about us not hearing about the Ramadi battles and deaths on the news, I am not. There are no hotels worth a crap in Ramadi. (The same thing happened in Vietnam. Everyone heard about...

Thanks for posting that. If we fail in Iraq, it won't be because we aren't sending our best.

Tonight I was in the local Wally's stocking the larder, and ahead of me in the checkout line, was a young Marine with his mom. I so badly wanted to hug him and thank him for doing his duty, but I just smiled at him...and I tried to think of saying something supportive but the words wouldn't come. And then to come here and read this. Thanks, John. And tell him that even though his Marine support back home has his back, we are praying for him too.

Thanks sir for all you and your Marines are doing. My son just returned from FOB Summerall. It feels so good to be able to sleep at night but I still can't stay away from the blogs. I feel that from guys like you I can get the true story. My prayers are with all of you serving in Iraq and for your family too. I certainly understand some of what they must be going thru. With much love and gratitude from a proud Army mom who thinks you are all so brave!

That's a great list. I especially love the Mayor fighting back - glad he had the cajones :-)

May the Marine!Goth keep his cool and his sense of humor so well. I'm going to hate not hearing from him - but will keep the 'can't write about most, won't write about the most of the rest' in mind. It may help.
