Acidman, RIP.

June 26, 2006 News... This is Sam. Rob has passed away. They found him at 2:00 this morning slumped over on the couch. He did not shoot himself and no pills or alcohol were found in the house. When I find out anything else I'll let you know. Out of respect for my family please do not leave nasty comments.

~Sam

Go in peace, friend.

Now is the time at Castle Argghhh! when we dance: In Memoriam.

[Wherever he is, Rob is pissed right now that I used such sappy, if appropriate, music. Hee! Have one on me, fella!*]

And I should note - Acidman was one of the first big bloggers to link to SWWBO and blogroll her. And he *never* once, linked to me, or blogrolled me. Rob was *not* good for my ego - but he did make me laugh. The world is briefly a smaller place without Rob in it.

*How better to mark Rob's passing than with an Irish Wake - celebrate the life, even if he *was* one dark curmudgeon!

Rob at Gut Rumbles… from La Shawn Barber's Corner on June 26, 2006 4:22 PM

…has died. Rob Smith, aka Acidman, was a plainspoken and prolific blogger out in the ’sphere since 2002 (with close to three million visitors). Rob was a recovering alcoholic who had some health problems recently. Gut Rumbles was a blog ... Read More

The Acidman departs from Righty in a Lefty State on June 26, 2006 5:15 PM

I had just barely posted up the news about Pfc Devon Gibbons, when I clicked over to Castle Argghhh for something to lighten my mind. Instead I found that the blogosphere has lost one of our own. Read More

Unexpected Influences from My Side of the Puddle on June 27, 2006 9:33 AM

It's the unexpected influences that shape our lives. I hope that when I die, I have made positive impacts on people I've met, both in "real life", and online. Read More

Rob Smith, R.I.P from Classical Values on June 27, 2006 10:09 AM

Via Pajamas Media, I'm sorry to read about the death of Rob Smith, aka ACIDMAN. "A Real Life" is how PJM described Rob, and I think that's a fitting tribute. Despite innumerable and complex health problems, the guy kept blogging... Read More

Wouldn't it just be so sad if all of that shoulder pain were the onset of an infarct. It would be awful if Rob died of a common Heart Attack that could have been prevented. Our {{Hugs}} go out to Sam and the rest of the family.

That is such a sad shame - I figured after all Rob had been through this past year or so, he'd come out on top. D*mmit.

He nurtured a lot of blogs, including mine, with linkage. I'll miss him.

I didn't know him well, or read him much, but his bout with alcoholism convinced me he was a *good man*. Someone I'd enjoy having as a neighbor even if he did drive me crazy half the time. It's hard to look in the mirror and admitt you messed up in such a way that you need professional help. Acidman did that. That takes courage. The world is diminished at his passing.

damn. I am shocked, and saddened by Acidman's death. Like Barb said, he's gone through so much over the past year, I really thought things were going to take a turn for the better in his life. ug.

What an amazing man. I'd never seen his blog before today, I definitely would have become a faithful reader. I guarantee I'll be reading the archives as long as they are up!

For anyone concerned about the blog, from reading comments it seems as if the blog will continue permanently, as pre-arranged by Rob himself. (Not recently, he made these rearrangements a while ago) And it was through Rob I found this blog...May he rest in peace.

I'm going to miss my jousting partner. Robbie was one of a kind.
