Provided below is a message from CW4(R) James V. Torney, who escorted the remains of CW2 Kyle E. Jackson home from Iraq. CW2 Jackson and CW3 Mitchell K. Carver, Jr., were killed in action near Al Sukar, Iraq, on Jan. 13, when their OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopter came under attack by enemy forces using small arms fire. They were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 10th Aviation Regiment, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y. --- I was escorting our brother Kyle home the other day. A duty I don't ever want to do again but will not refuse. Besides all of...

As a retired Army Infantry VN vet who can personally attest to the "lousy" recpetion we got, this story made me proud. I volunteer at the VA and at the airport in Atlanta meeting returning war vets with the USO and whatever good feelings it represents for the soldiers. marines, sailors and arimen - it's even mopre so for me. Welcome Home and thank you for your service. HATE WAR AND LOVE THE WARRIOR.

Damn straight, you two.
It's our Vietnam Vets who took it on the chin so that it will NEVER happen again. It sickens me when I think about how you guys (my Dad included) were treated upon returning from war.
I can't thank you enough for putting yourself on the line every day out there, and again back here, fighting to make sure that our military men and women ALWAYS get the respect they deserve.

*thanks*

Yep, true Bill. The public's civility now, is lead by Vietnam Vets, IMO. As a group, we are bound and determined to never let there be another disgraceful display toward service men/women while we still are on this side of the dirt.

Hey, Two-Niner - if it took taking a ration of sh*t when we got home in order to have people take the blinders off, it was worth it.

And we'd take it again, if we had to--and you'd be fighting with Baby-San to be first in line...

So very sad that we lose such brave men and women! However it is very heartening to know that great respect is paid to the fallen and the living. Vietnam returnees saw little, if any, goodwill from the public. It still smarts; belated parades and granite walls notwithstanding.
